New Zealand Story Review OCR'd from Amiga Format 1 images
Following the discussion about OCR in the contribute thread I decided to see how long it would take to convert one of the AMR scans.
I choose the New Zealand Story review from issue 1 of Amiga Format because I remember buying the issue for the demo on the coverdisk. I'll attach (hopefully ) the corrected version and the original OCR, used FreeOCR V3. Took about 1hr but I was half watching TV and talking with the wife at the same time. It's great to see you using the scans. However, the edited one still has plenty of mistakes (full stops instead of commas, you'll with capital I's, Super Mario Bros is wrong, In with a lowercase l etc). It shows what a lot of work it is to correct stuff like this!

Yup it's a pain to do and I'm not sure of the possible applications, it makes the reviews searchable but what use is that? Might be worth doing on tutorial / workshop articles but not on reviews.
I tried it, but my conclusion seems to be it's a slow process with no real benefit and you need at least a 2 member team to do the proof reading. |
