Change "Automatically retrieve titles from external links" default behaviour?
Anyone know how to change the behaviour of the Miscellaneous option "Automatically retrieve titles from external links" which is ticked by default:
I am quite bothered by this default behaviour, especially when some pages have rather complex/meaningless titles. As I'd like not to have to untick the option each time, I looked in the CP how to change the default behaviour but found nothing. I also did a search in the FAQ/help on "retrieve" but found no result. So I'd like either to have somewhere a user option to have it behave "as before" by default (an URL is displayed as an URL and not the linked page title) or have the board behave as it did before the upgrade (users could still use the retrieve title function but would have to tick it). Maybe RCK can prevent emails to thread subscribers being triggered by LinkBacks. This feature is just not useful in the same way as being notified of a new post to the thread is.
The recent update comes with a few troublesome side-effects, as we have seen. |

Okay I found why, the Refback feature was not able to discover some mibbit info, and take 9sec to generate this linkback.. |

I will disable the whole __refback__ engine, it's more trouble than anything

For what ever reason, the link to this THREAD in my email notifications of new posts have stopped working. Links to all other threads still work, it's just this thread that no longer opens a Firefox window. (Worth noting, the link to the mobile page does open a window, but drops me at http://eab.abime.net/ rather then in the thread.)
I couldn't find a forum section for "issues with the forum" so i posted it here, and will report the post right away. Edit Using the unsubscribe link in the email i get a invalid thread message. But copy / pasting the link for the thread to view the post works just fine, and if anything it should do as the mobile link does, kick me to the front page. No, i just don't get it. /Edit Last edited by DH; 16 June 2013 at 14:14. |

Try deleting the email notification, and then re-apply it again, it could be that the news thread was moved at some point and the redirect has run out.

Copy the link, and pasted it, and ended up in this thread, just like i was supposed to. And it's only this thread that produce links that looks like links, gets the "finger" icon when mousing over it, and when you click it, nothing happens. The workaround of copy n' paste it in the browser manually is easy enough, but somehow it bugs me that the link wont open when i click it. I'm not going to talk more about it in this thread tho, if anyone from the forum staff is interested in trying to figure out whats going on, feel free to PM me. |

@Mr B, I have moved your posts to this thread in case it's a problem that has been caused through the vBulletin update. I have subscribed to that thread myself now and I will be able to test the email notification myself when someone else posts other than me.

Thank you.
BTW, the email with the link to your post in that thread. The link looks right, gets the finger, when i click it, nothing happens. Edit Todays post in the thread gave me an identical link, and, stil, nothing happens when clicking it. What was your luck? /Edit Last edited by Mr B; 17 June 2013 at 11:52. |

There is definitely something weird going on here :s

If I click on the second link, which is the mobile version, it takes me straight to the main index page only and not the thread and last post :s The first link actually work from within EAB, second one does not, so they are specific to the email links, so in order to try them yourselves, you'll have to subscribe to the thread in question. So my educated guess is, the links being provided for emails are wrong and this may be due to the change to the Url's which are now content relevant. But this is definitely an issue. EDIT: I've just noticed RCK is on the issue, so this post was probably not needed lol Last edited by DH; 17 June 2013 at 12:50. |
