Final Fight crashing
Has anyone been able to play WHDLoad Final Fight on an A600?
I tried here (2mb Chip Ram, no Fast Ram), game loads.. first, there's no intro music. Then the game loads, first level appears, it lasts for just a few seconds, the game dies an horrible crash (garbage thrown on screen, then just nothing on video). Anyone had better luck than me? |

Don't have that problem here, did you start it to a clean, nothing loaded, no startup-sequence shell?
I am testing it with 2MB and PRELOAD option and works just fine (just shocked, what kinda game is this? No even the levels are like the original ) There is indeed no intro music though, actually no music at all , only the punches sfx and stuff. EDIT: I made it crash with garbage and black screen just like you described. Not sure what caused it though! It was working fine before. Weird. |

Yeah, clean startup, no startup-sequence.
The game had no ingame music, just music on the intro ( A pretty good one, I must add). The coder himself said he left room for ingame music and asked US Gold to provide music to him... which they never did. |

Loading may need correct timing, if it's too fast game crashes. Same problem may be with Swiv.

I already made a bug report on mantis.
Swiv works properly here though. |

I confirm the problem both with WHDload (latest) AND CD32load. Game starts for a few seconds then display is trashed.
I'll investigate. Tested with WinUAE (A600 HD config) |

problem fixed. Update in whdload page soon
(Slightly off topic: my CD32load software can run whdload slaves on 2MBChip/nofast A600/A1200 IDE HD without OS flashes ) Final Fight works for instance. |

I think they're lucky because game crashed before playing.

hey the game is not so bad (if that's what you meant). At least it was done by a real Amiga coder, not a Tiertex bozo.

Yes, I liked this game when I had not comparison to arcade version. Same as with Street Fighter 2.

Yeah it doesn't seem that bad. bit crazy that the level layouts are not the original ones, I wonder why?

The game is bad. Richard Aplin was a good programmer, but he clearly had no idea of what makes Brawlers fun to play. Many of the stuff that was cut, I'll give to tight deadline/not enough resources/making ST and Amiga version at the same time.
But there are some problems with the gameplay of this that are unforgivable. Some of it are Game Design 101, like GIVE THE PLAYER A BREAK after he gets attacked and DO NOT ATTACK THE PLAYER WHILE THE SCREEN IS STILL FADING IN. All those problems this game has, the Double Dragon 2 port also has. Last edited by Shatterhand; 29 February 2016 at 20:34. |

thanks Jean-Francois for the correction. I have a good memory of this game back in the days, i discover this game in arcade and having this port with big sprites at home was good for his time (then comes in our homes the snes version which is a almost a perfect port).
Merci et bonne continuation |

The SNES version, while being a lot better than the Amiga One, is still very far, and its missing Guy and the 2 players option !
Even the X68000 version that people always claim "ITS BETTER THAN THE ARCADE VERSION" has stuff from the arcade version missing, though you'd have to be a die-hard fan of the arcade version to notice it The best home versions of the game are the X68000 followed by the Sega CD one. |

Could it be possible to make the game use the 1mb mode (the one which triggers music + flipping sprites table in ram) ?
Thanks |
