How to create launcher 'shortcuts'?
I'd like to have a drawer with just the boxart (i.e. the .info launchers) like in this screenshot:
(from this thread, but link to actual files is broken) Looking at the AmigaDOS manual, I've tried the MAKELINK command to make both hard and soft links to the launcher (.info) but when I double click this new linked file, it complains that it cannot find the .slave. So it appears they behave differently than they do in say Gnome/linux or Windows. Does anyone know how to make this a reality? I don't like the look of iGame at all. For the time being I leave them out on workbench but it's more cluttered than I like. |

just open an editor and make a text file with the line to start the game, for example "whdload GreatGianaSisters.slave".
Save it, open the information of the text file, give it a flag for SCRIPT and EXECUTABLE, drag and drop an icon on the old one, save it and you´re done |

Thanks SkulleateR. But would the directories containing the .slaves not need to be on the PATH for that to work?
Edit: silly question, I can put the path in the script! Apologies - I'll try that now Edit2: I'm getting 'object not found' errors on reading "Disk.1" doing this. The default tool for the text file is CED - if that makes a difference. I tried 'CLI' but it didn't help. Also, dragging the icon of the old Lotus onto this one in the information gave the error "Icons cannot be moved into this window". I'm on 3.0. So just put it in like "whdload dh0:games/GGS/GreatGianaSisters.slave"
This is if your whdload is in C: of course |

Looks like you posted while I was still typing I'm getting 'object not found' errors on reading "Disk.1" doing this. Also, dragging the icon (.info?) of the old Lotus onto this one in the information gave the error "Icons cannot be moved into this window". I'm on 3.0.

Ok, long time ago I also used 3.0 ....
Let me think about it Uh, try to do a CD into the game directory in the text file like : "cd dh0:games/GGS/ whdload GreatGianaSister.slave" .. and have a look if the object not found error disappears .... for the icon I "think" you have to use Icon Edit to change it .... |

Thanks again SkulleaterR. Some progress I was able to apply the icon using Icon edit.
the 'cd' trick gave the same result unfortunately, but I'll keep tinkering and if I get anywhere I'll post back. Maybe I should just append all the game drawers to the PATH. Or each individually in their respective script... it would be worth the work IMO Update: Nope, the PATH only searches for commands, not files. |

Finally got it sorted thanks to a missing piece I found in a thread here:
http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthread.php?t=53388 I had to make the default tool be: c:iconx And everything ran fine after that Thanks so much for your help!! I'm off to create a lovely drawer full of launchers now |
