[WIP] Donkey Kong conversion

Well, that's the reason why i temporarily stopped converting Moon Patrol

- Commented disassembly already existed and was very good
- corresponding ROM was available on MAME with same addresses and all
- Mark (tcdev) provided the graphics. He decided to let me lead the project after he started the disassembly himself
- The sprites are pretty simple to figure out and convert
- There are dynamic palettes for tiles, but seem to affect only rows, which is a breeze for the copper and leaves enough colors for the rest, for a total of 32 colors (22 used total).

There are a lot of bugs, you'll notice that collision is off because of that (barrels are pretty much buggy for now), but 3 screens can be viewed in the below video. Last screen crashes (on purpose for now). Not playable but you'll see the potential immediately I hope.

We've already got Monkey Business, so no real need for this...

...

;-)

Sorry,

SWEET! For the longest time, this was my favorite arcade game!
(Partially because it was at the market just down the road from my High School...)

Awesome work, as usual sir!

Yes. Technically the game should have been done before, but Mark was sidetracked by a ton of other stuff and finally gave in, then I found this superb 100% disassembly. My kids also have a TI83 calculator port which suspiciously looks like a transcode too. They probably used that too.

Moon Patrol will happen too. Only it will take a lot longer to make it right.

Yeah, four more useful letters. No need for a powerpc to play games now MAME is invaluable / super useful, but on PC to debug the game & inspect values. I suppose that if I only had an amiga I could use it for that too (not sure the old versions had a debugger though).

Another classic is coming nicely to the Amiga due to jotd
Frenchies rules

By the way, if not complicated, it could be nice if this one could be included as an extra (easter egg or hidden game if you score more than <put a number here>) :

Billy Mitchell will love this.
Regarding the Game&Watch game above, I already recreated it for Amiga using C language and AHX music:

Handheld gameplay by me:

Also, you gotta be careful with these Nintendo franchise remakes, or DMCA notice will come your way, from Nintendo guys themselves.

P.S. Remake of the Game & Watch game, running on AmigaOS 4:

I don't believe in such threats (the cardboard thing seems to be a hoax btw, aaaand yes it is: https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/f...en/4310183001/). I have checked the web for other remakes and there are plenty. Ransom of success.

then this on SNES

then a whole lot of remakes

(the Atari 2600 remake is impressive, given the crap hardware, sound is so great)

You can still go the Crazy Kong route if you feel the heat, since you are porting a bootleg that would be less infringing i think

Crazy Kong is not a bootleg. Besides, there is no Source Code available for it.

Crazy Kong is a semi bootleg, in fact Falcon was making DK boards for Nintendo due to high demand and decided to churn out its own version with variation, so i guess Jotd can do some variations too

Yes, Crazy Kong was officially licensed by Nintendo. It uses also different Hardware than DK.

No souce code and different hardware; so, no Crazy kong for you

But speaking of DK Clones .... Did you know. .. the first known commercially released Amiga Game was apparently this ...

and you sure didnt forgot this ...
