Trouble setting up SCSI CD RW with CSMK3
Hi
I am having trouble getting my CSMK3 to recognise a SCSI CDRW. I have the SCSI HD recognised just fine but it wont find the CDRW. I thought it might be a software problem so asked for some in this thread: http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=37457 But still no luck. Any suggestions? Regards |

1. check the cabling. It should be similar to this:
terminator --- controller --- hdd ---cd --- terminator Best to use only one cable with 68 lines, not adapters between cables. The CD drive probably needs an adapter from 68 to 50 lines without termination (i.e. the cheap ones). 2. check jumpers. The ID jumpers of the HDD and the CD must be different. Usually one would use ID 0 (no jumpers) for the HDD and ID 1 (jumper on 1, no jumpers on 2 and 4)for the CD. One (and only one) of the drives should have the TermPwr (termination power) jumper set. None of the drives may have the Term (termination) jumper on. (You might use a terminated adapter and the Term jumper on the CD drive instead of the right terminator, but I prefer real terminators). 3. check the BIOS. Hold down the Esc key after a reset so that you enter the firmware menu of the CSMK3. Click on the SCSI button to enter the SCSI settings. Check that the IDs of your drives (i.e. 0 and 1 in my example above) are enabled. Set everything to auto, tuning can be done later. To speed up the boot process you can disable the IDs you don't use (i.e. set them to NO LUN) and set the IDs of your drives to 1 LUN. 4. check software. Run UnitControl from the SCSI disk and check that both drives are recognised. Click on Rescan if one drive is missing. 5. if the CD drive is recognised by UnitControl, install a driver. AmiCDFS was suggested in the other thread. It comes with detailed instructions. Read them. |

I forgot:
If your CSMK3 does not have a firmware menu, then you should do a flash update. Only very old versions of the flash ROM don't have a menu. The update also resets all settings to default. You can get the latest flash updates, system libraries and SCSI disk from there: http://powerup.amigaworld.de/index.php?lang=en&page=13 |
