ClassicWB Xmas Update Preview
Well peeps, it's that time of year once again approaching!
I know how annoying it is to have in your face whilst we're still in November, but if you can't beat them, join them: Right, now you're in the mood, here is a little preview of the new features in the xmas ClassicWB packs that are currently WIP:
As you can see, quite a substantial update so far. I'm afraid I might not be able to provide an update pack for this release as it would be too time consuming to write the scripts and avoid changing user customizations. What will probably happen is this will be released as v21F, and the last update pack for v20F users is the u2. If v20F users want future update packs, they'll have to start fresh with v21F. I apologise for the inconvenience, but I just don't have the free time to support update packs once they get too complicated and large - it becomes a nightmare with 4 separate packs to support and avoiding overwriting user settings. Look on the bright side - I wasn't even going to improve these packs at all a year ago. Last edited by Bloodwych; 11 November 2007 at 14:17. |

The OS3.9 pack is still on hold. It has to be built up from scratch so it's going to be a slow process as I only work on these packs as a hobby in moments of boredom. AmigaSYS has it's AGA version out now though and I think that supports 3.9. |

I'll try Retro-Nerd, although it's hard to remember everything exactly! I avoided adding anything that would make the install too large (like software) or affect memory usage in order to keep to its "lite" theme, but did add some useful features.
There is probably more, but it’s hard to remember when I’m working between all the different packs and this one doesn’t have Scalos. Smart Refresh (SmartWB on Aminet) was removed because I found some compatibility issues plus it used up more memory when opening Workbench windows (bad for 2MB users). This might mean some of the window drawing is slightly slower. Also, VirusZ annoyingly kept on thinking it was a virus in memory. You can download it from Aminet and re-install it in the WBStartup drawer if you wish. I’m about to go and see if a replacement is any better – if it is, I’ll add it as an enable/disable feature. Thanks for using my packs. Yeah, the LITE was due a little overhaul to bring it more in line with the normal packs.
Just tried a replacement for SmartWB, SmartWIN from Aminet. VirusZ still thinks it's a virus in memory. SmartWIN is meant to be a more complete solution than SmartWB, forcing smart refreshes for more than just WB windows, but I'm not going to include it due to the slightly higher mem usage and annoying VirusZ issue. The FULL and above don't need this patch as Scalos takes care of it. Last edited by Bloodwych; 04 December 2007 at 00:19. |
