Help modifying/fixing a game?
This is pretty much to ask, but would it be possible to modify the James Pond 2 (purposely poorly cracked/copied version) in a way that Continuing the game would actually work? The controls are borked and that ok for the current purpose, they are supposed to be borked The problem is that probably due to the same antipiracy measure the game does not allow to continue the game after first "death" and just loops in the menu. Would this be possible to fix?
I may very well be asking wayyy to much here, but at least I tried Any volunteers Adf here: https://cloud.uwasa.fi/index.php/s/0XXwmKIBmyQmCGi Last edited by emuola; 25 September 2018 at 10:47. |

Why don't you use one of the cracked versions that can be easily found?

I have never seen this issue with the cracked versions I've played, so any reason why you want to play that specific badly cracked version?

I believe the OP wants to demonstrate possible side effects of uncracked/poorly cracked software.

Maybe he wants to have a version which is badly cracked on purpose (i.e. broken controls but game should be able to continue) but I doubt anyone will spend time doing that.

The problem is that as the machines displaying the game are running "headless" and have to be basically completely trouble free (from museum's point of view). Currently there's a problem whenever somebody plays until the JP dies (quite far actually regarding the controls are really screwed up). But it is really impossible to prevent someone from playing "too far". Only rebooting solves this (stuck in the menu after death) and i's kinda annoying booting the computer all the time during the day. I know, I should have not picked this game in the first place, but noone seemed to know this feature regarding the copy protection. So, testing the game meant just the game sitting in the menu and naturally working flawlessly for weeks. If I really had played till death (literally!!!), I'd notice the undocumented feature of the copy protection. Now it's too late to change the game on display unfortunately :/ But as I said, this would be a really custom cracked game Last edited by emuola; 25 September 2018 at 14:49. |
