Burn CD-R disks for A570
Hey all,
I'm new to the Amiga scene and I recently got an A570 disk drive for my Amiga 500 and I was wondering if there is any way to burn lots of .ADF files to a CD and use it in the A570. I've got a CDTV disk called "Weird Science NetworkCD" and it has lots of tools and stuff like that. It appears on my workbench screen, but when I try to burn a CD-R with a few ADF files using ISO 9960, the Amiga just gets stuck on the worckench with the "Zzz.." icon. I'm using Workbench 1.3 and the Amiga has a 512k memory upgrade. Thanks for reading. |

You can not load games from ADF files on Amiga 500, you need convert them to real Amiga disks and you may have memory problems.

Seems to me like he's just trying to open the CD from the Amiga, not to run the games directly from the ADF files on the CD.
Has the CD been finalized? |

Yeah, the CD was finalized. I just want a way to play Amiga games/demos on my Amiga using files from my PC. I've tried Amiga Explorer, but to no avail. It gets halfway through the setup process and stops.
I've only had my Amiga for a few weeks, so I don't know much about anything. The first CD I burnt was in ISO9960 Joliet with just an ADF file. It froze the Amiga. The second was in ISO9960 Rock Ridge with an ADF and I read that I should chuck a Disk.info file in there too, so I did. Amiga booted but didn't detect the CD. Or should I just give up and get an Amiga 1200 for $330NZD (£180) EDIT: I tried one of my backed upped CDTV games and it shows up! But no files inside. |

Could be that the laser on the A570 is picky about CD-R. You could try different brands if you haven't already.

Hmm, good idea, I've only tried Verbatim disks. Not sure if if this makes any difference, but the laser has been replaced. I won't have access to my Amiga for a week so I won't be able to try anything at the moment.
Going a bit off topic, are there any good alternatives to Amiga Explorer? I've got CrossDOS on my Amiga (I think) |

Can the drive play audio CDs? If so, then you could try to play a burned audio CD. This would tell you if it can read your CD-Rs. Some older drives cannot read CD-R at all.

Yep, I can play a burnt audio CD. I found a player in the NetworkCD disk that I had called CDTV player.
I can't get the fancy bootable CD player to work though. Power light for the Amiga just starts blinking and restarts. EDIT: The audio CD was made using the same brand of disks that I was using for the ADFs. EDIT 2: I'll whip out my other miggy when I get back home just in case its the Amiga causing the errors but I have a feeling my other miggys FDD is dead. Any ideas if it's possible to simply create a compilation of games that can be selected using a "key" press?

Awesome, I won't be able to use it at the moment as the only computer I have access to at the moment is a NeXT desktop.

Yes something of that nature... Wasn't sure if it required any additional programming or whether there is already a software package on say Aminet to help generate a compilation.

That sounds like a cool idea! I was originally thinking about putting heaps of games and demos on a CD and just being able to click on them to run them, but now I know that isn't possible.
I'm going to go to Jaycar (my local electronics shop) and buy some wire and serial plug thingies to make my own cable for Amiga Explorer. It seems like the only way. EDIT: It seems I have CrossDOS on my workbench disk, doesn't that allow an Amiga to read PC formatted 720k floppies? |

Yes, CrossDOS will make it possible for the Amiga to read PC formatted DD disks, and this is also an easy way to set up an effective PC->Amiga transfer system.
I think it should be possible to put WHDLoad on a bootable CD along with some WHDLoad installed games and launch the games from there. |

If using CrossDOS then you can 'zip' files... but if I remember correctly, there was a ADF writer that supported compressed images?

So, is there any special software and/or hardware that I need to get to compress the 880k ADFs down to 720k for a 720k floppy? And to decompress it on the Amiga?
