Maybe this is why Tower Assault got a v1.1?
Just noticed this today. On a stock 512k/512k A500 configuration, Tower Assault v1.0 chokes to a halt at the very beginning of the initial boot process if "More Compatible" is ticked (or in other words, Prefetch is emulated) in the "CPU and FPU" tab in WinUAE (and this of course rules out "Cycle Exact" as a viable setting). If you attempt to swap out the RAM for 1Mb Chip, it gives you a red screen, then it freezes. The game boots without issue on all later Amiga quickstarts (from A500+ up) with MC/EC enabled. Furthermore, v1.1 as a whole is more friendly with stock A500s and boots with zero hassle, regardless of prefetch or RAM setting.
This was tested first with the v1.0 IPFs, then with all existing scene cracks of the game (which if I'm correct about this, are all based on v1.0. Feel free to prove me wrong though). My original retail copy must have been a v1.1 back then as I recall being able to play the thing on my real A500 back then. |

v1.0 and v1.1 mainly differs with the v1.1 having a cheat mode included.
Tower assault v1.0 runs perfectly on my A500 with 512k + 512k slow rom. And it does the same in winuae..... Nah, the biggest problem with this game is that 2 data files are damaged on all versions, and this from factory ! |
