PicoPSU for Amiga
I had this nice looking, almost non-yellowed, but dead PSU lying around and thought I could use a modern and a bit more powerful PSU for my Amigas.
So I took the insides out and replaced it with a PicoPSU-120 and a 60W DC adapter. The PicoPSU-120 should be able to deliver 4.8A continuous in fanless operation and up to 8A in peak current, so this should be plenty for any of my Amigas. If a fan is installed, it is rated for 6A continuous current. By putting the entire 12V DC adapter inside, I avoid breaking the safety. Also, the PicoPSU is on one side while the 230V wires are on the other side, separating them, although everything is protected by shrink tubing. It is working great and it is very noticeable how non-hot it gets during operation. I can't feel any heat from it even efter 15 minutes of running my Amiga. You won't get that with any of the originals. Edit: Yes, I had to cut away on that 230V plug inside to make it fit, but I was very careful not to break the insulation on any of the wires inside. The 12V adapter almost touches the top of the lid when it is closed, so nothing is moving around when I shake it. Edit2: Just thought that maybe this doesn't really belong in OT. Performance-wise it would be more optimal to put the PicoPSU inside the Amiga like many people do since the long power cable causes the 5V line to drop to around 4.8V when it enters the Amiga. But I wanted the PSU to look like a regular PSU and also be able to use it with all my Amigas, so I had to do it this way.
