Fastest Possible switch been fixed?

A known issue this one I know, however I've just been playing some WHDload games with WinUAE 0825 and had to do without JIT as it isn't compatible with all titles.

It's left me wondering if the non-JIT setting of "fastest possible but maintain chipset timing" has been or is going to be fixed? On 0825, it still runs at A500 speeds - 1 MIPS - using only a few percent of my Athlon XP! I've been looking through the fixes but couldn't see it mentioned........

The only way around this at the moment is to use the chipset slider, but the only setting that works smoothly (one click away from CPU) gives a low CPU score of about 2MIPS. Since WHDload configs offer greater compatibility without JIT, this setting is very important!

What configs do you guys normally run for WHDload?

I've mentioned this problem several times and it was still present earlier today, even with 0827.

Then I was messing around with the settings and all of a sudden it worked! 100% CPU usage (non-JIT) and around 20 MIPS instead of 1!

EDIT: It appears to be linked to sound emulation. Sound off - fastest possible works. Sound on, Amiga500 speed.

Just stumbled upon this board (Where have i been!)

HELLO ALL

I have just downloaded the latest version of Winuae and can confirm this small problem with the "fastest possible" setting. Turn sound emulation off, and WB runs even better than my real A1200-040! As previously mentioned, the main plus is that WHDload games remain unaffected. I also mess with the slider and JIT while using WB, and, although i can live with changing the settings before firing up my favourite games, it would be awesome to have a speedy WB without affecting game performance. I hope this can be fixed.

Thanks for adding some comments MSC and welcome to EAB!

Glad you have the same experience too - I thought I was the only one who thought this to be a problem. Can't understand how others don't have issues - quite a few WHDload games will not work with JIT so this non-JIT setting is useful. Perhaps most use ADFs as A500 compatibility is almost perfect.

Fixed. A500-mode sound timing is now only used in real A500-mode (A500 sound timing = no crap sound even if sound driver isn't too good but it won't work very well in faster modes)

I guess this means I'll get some sound problem bug reports soon after next version has been released...

Great. Thanks.

I'm sure you will get new bug reports; I guess that's the hassle of maintaining an emulator which is really several rolled into one. That's what people forget sometimes when they compare WinUAE to other simpiler emulators. It isn't just an Amiga emulator like Gens is just a megadrive - WinUAE is several hard to emulate machines all rolled into one.

Thanks for the kind welcome Bloodwych. And than you Tony for the continued work on WINUAE. I am hoping the sound issue will not affect too many people as even on board sound now has decent drivers. I tend to take my SB Live! for granted.
