The Unity intros were made for the sysop Overdose, a bit of a nutter who said he was in the group Kingdom for a little while in 1994. (They released Naughty Ones and probably nothing else).
I remember when connecting to his board one day he broke into chat mode to show a directory listing to show something like 800Mb of free space. He bought just under a 1Gig HD (for about $2000 at the time I believe) and this was at a time when most boards had 100-200Mb drives so this was enormous. Pity it was so late in the day Amigawise but I'm sure it was the largest board in NZ! |

yep remember my dad paying $5000NZD at start of 95 for a 486/66 8mb Ram, 540MB HD, 4x CD-ROM drive with Windows 3.11. That was on the farm account. That was when the exchange rate was about $1USD = $2NZD.
Was that BBS running on a A4k? |

thank you very much acd2001. I recently started studying the assembly Language for Amiga with the course in Italian by Fabio Ciucci (mitico) and I think this material help me to understand how to program demo on Amiga. Grazie

What were the nz Amiga Warez BBS's like? I think the only bbs I wanted to be on was that h/p bbs the Banana Republic bbs. but that was the late 80's. :/ Last edited by redblade; 26 April 2014 at 11:36. Reason: Hungover |

1. Elite boards (Shark Island, Surreal Abstract Reality etc) - upload ratio of 1:3 so if you weren't carding or blueboxing, it was basically impossible to use these boards as you would never have anything to upload. They made money by charging users to connect. I never bothered on any of those sites. Shark Island regularly purged all users, constantly changed phone numbers and was shutdown when Sandman got busted for illegal activities. He had apparently rung up $700,000 worth of charges. They had very small hard drives (100Mbish) and constantly wiped older stuff, and were obsessed with console stuff towards the end. 2. The rest usually had a "front" where newbies would connect and there'd be one conference of PD stuff, and once you'd been verified you would get access to the warez. Ratios were far better, far more disk space (250Mb etc) and often you could donate once to the sysops and they'd give you disabled ratios for life. (This was because so few people ever donated so they were happy to get anything to cover the $40/month Telecom charge). All the games from the elite boards ended up on these sites anyway, just a day or two later. They had much friendly sysops and members too. 3. The dreggs! Some lower quality boards such as the Village, which had 4 nodes, but sod all Amiga stuff, and 2400 baud for non paying members. Also some sites that were PD only or had just a few games, and often only online after school hours etc. These were hardly worth ringing. |

Glad my old source code is still serving some use.
First warez board I connected to was Marantz where I connected with a dude called Wraith. I wrote him an intro and he let me stay. Started networking from there, and nearer the end corresponding heaps with Captain Caveman I have fond memories of those days. The asm programming I did back then gave me a solid computing foundation. I really miss programming the Amiga... No time nowadays. I don't even own one haha |

Thanks for sharing! I started learning Amiga hardware programming a few months ago, so I really appreciate having the chance to look at examples about how things are supposed to be done.
