Amiga 4000d
Hi guys this is my first post so please excuse any mistakes i have retrieved a 4000 that has been stored for years and as you can guess the battery has leaked. I have followed the excellent tutorials and removed the battery and cleaned the board now the two tracks on the u177 chip are broken that is the battery side can anyone tell me should it still boot in this condition when first set up it booted to inset disk screen i loaded WB disk and it loaded and was useable but after i tuned it off and back on the following day it would not boot only blank screen thanks

seems the first time worked because the mobo is sane
the 2nd time failed to boot because the copper contacts reacted after long time and completed the natural oxidation process (sulphation) clean the contacts of the cpu board using alcohol...both motherboard and cpu board..try again optionally clean the contacts of the daughterboard as well, both mobo and board |

Hi thanks for reply i dont think i am up to that the reason i asked was i read the item on amiga technical resource and it seems to say the system would flag rtc the only repair i have done to tracks was a printer and i used silver PCB paint.

You could send it to AmigaKit for repair. They could also replace the capacitors on the board at the same time.
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/...roducts_id=932 I imagine it will probably be around £60 + p&p but you'd have to ask them. You'd save money if you shipped just the motherboard. |

if the tracks were broken, and it booted, the conclusion is, that it isn't due to them it doesn't now... and please use some commas or shorter sentences ;-)

The 4000 will boot with the tracks going to the clock circuit missing, even if u177 is missing is will boot.

If the lines next to U177 he is talking about are broken it will boot. Probably there will be more damage (even not visible under some chips).
