More USB Harddrive woahs!
I have just dusted off my old A1200 after discovering Winuae, with the hope of transferring the contents of its 60MB 2.5" conner harddrive (CP2061) to an image file on my laptop.
I first connected the conner drive to a 3.5" to 2.5" converter in a USB drive caddy and turned it on on...so far so good.... nice whirring noises and no smoke. I then checked to see if it was recognised through device manager and there it was (listed as Cnner P eriphdr`lr63LB USB device). However, when I start WinUAE and select add harddrive it is not recognised, I get 'No hard disks detected that were either empty or RDB-petitioned'. Even after using the -disableharddrivesafetycheck command it still doesn't appear, all that is listed is the internal hard drive on my PC (a 120GB toshiba) WinUAE log tells me the following: opening device '\\?\ide#disktoshiba_mk1237gsx_______________________dl132c__#5&f552377&0&0.0.0#{53f56307-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b}' device id string: 'TOSHIBA MK1237GSX DL132C 202020202020202020203920463746584c365346' BytesPerSector=512 Cyls=14593 TracksPerCyl=255 SecsPerTrack=63 device size 120034123776 (0x1bf2976000) bytes 4 MBR partitions found 0: num: 1 type: 07 offset: 32256 size: 111723945984, type not 0x76 1: num: 2 type: 07 offset: 111723978240 size: 8307532800, type not 0x76 non-empty MBR partition table detected, doing RDB check anyway Warning: The safety test has been disabled, and non-empty hard disks were detected. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Sorry if you are all fed up with these requests - I'm desperate to power up my old hard drive (My A1200 died) and relive my youth! Thanks in advance and seasons greetings Graeme |

EDIT: 2.5"->3.5" IDE adapter + transfer mode forced to PIO0 (or 1) in bios most likely fixes the problem. Last edited by Toni Wilen; 17 December 2007 at 08:11. |

HI all and merry xmas to 1 and all
Last night just for fun I connected a 1 gig 2.5" HD to the usb port and tried to get HDtoolbox to reconise/format it. but without any joy. I can add it in winuea fine but HD toolbox refuses to see it just to check you use ueascsi.device in tooltips of hdtool box. exquse me i`m just a bit rusty with amiga stuff. (also a spell checker would help) ok just foud out its uaehf.device wil try it again with this no joy there then using uaehf.device so my question is has any one got a usb hard drive work with win uae ???? @cosmicfrog
Hello there, so far so good all you need to do now is change the tool type option in the hdtools icon from scsi.device to uaehf.device I believe.... just double check but i am sure it is... |

@Toni
isn't error 4, removable media error? i may be wrong but I remember there some similar issues with error 4 and some compact flash ide interfaces recently... there is an updated HDToolsBox that compensates for this.... one sec and i will add it. done.... there I believe thats the one.... you will most likely need to change the tool type over to uaehf.device again... ok now I`m confused (wont be the first time)
First the good news I`ve got it working. after reading Toni Wilen post I dusted of my wb 3.9 default config and it worked first time with no problems or errors, in true ami style. can only think that AmigaSYS was to blame (It also buggerd up me athilon so sharn`t be using that for every day amigering, pitty as liked the look and feel of it) I`m going do some more reaserch as to what really caused the problem but it wont be till after christmas now. was thinking is there a thread with useful/essential/patches for customing workbench ie better env handerling, mounting and assinging ? Thank you Toni for posting thats the best christmas present Ive had so far, thank you for makeing my PC so useful. Zetr0 is that the same hdinst.lha as on aminet? as tryed that last night.... thanks for all ya help and dont go blind or burn a finger on that hardware . |
