Joystick / PS2 Mouse Switcher
Hey Folks,
Before I get too adventurous, I wanted to make sure I wasn't re-inventing the wheel. I want to build an adapter that'll plug into the Mouse port, that'll convert to PS/2 AND act as a joystick switcher (switching based on a button press). Now I know these projects are pretty easy to come by as separate projects, but I wanted to combine them in one! This has been done before (See here but all the links to files have bitrotted) but I don't see anything recent that has assembly instructions. This'll be an interesting project as, up till now I've mostly restricted myself to Arduino type electronics. If you know of a an open source version of this anywhere, let me know and I'll save myself the pain. Chesh |

I started on a PS/2 mouse to Amiga adapter ages ago but lost interest..
The Arduino code on this page works well. The Archimedes uses the same type of quadrature signal system the Amiga uses so is a good start. http://danceswithferrets.org/geekblog/?m=201702 |

There are also a few of these little projects on aminet in the hardware category - you would just need to combine the ones you want.

Thanks for all the replies!
I'm going to try to build something from scratch, as the eventual aim is to have it in a customised case, with front mounted ports. This should be fun! |

Out of interest what microcontroller are you using?

At this point I'll probably prototype with an Arduino Pro mini and go from there. If it works on the proto, I'll look at "de-arduino"ING the whole thing down the track.
I'd like to have two of these for the rare "2 mouse" games. (Looking at you, Lemmings) |

Pro mini is a good choice as it fits inside my largest heat shrink tubes :-)

Quick update: I made my first prototype and it worked fine. Made the same thing in Eagle to make a proper board out of only to discover that the object libraries I was using in Eagle were numbered totally different to the way everyone else numbers them. Short sharp learning experience :-/
(Actually long slow learning experience. It took weeks for the boards to get to Australia) |

Alrighty then! It worked! Based on the Mark Spankus circuit joined at the hip to the "Dances with Ferrets" design. I've tested it with my bare A 1200 board and it worked beautifully, switching between Joystick and PS/2 mouse.
Once I've checked some rights, I'll post the final Gerbers and Eagle files up so you can all have a look. Cheers! Chesh |
