Uridium 2 CD32 (Unofficial Conversion)

Many years ago I posted a thread asking for help in getting Uridium 2 running on the CD32. Then recently I received a PM from Musashi5150 saying that he had it up and running on his console using Rob Northen's CD32 loader.

This might not be the final version, but it's certainly good enough at this stage to release into the wild. The game is playable in standard single-player mode on a base CD32, but to access other game modes you'll need a keyboard. There are a couple of other niggles (such as the screen isn't properly centred for some reason compared to the SPS release - is this the same in the WHDLoad version?), but there is nothing game breaking.

Download it (and the CD jewel case artwork) here.

(RGCD's other unofficial CD32 games can be found here).

The unreleased CD32 soundtrack from Steve Turner will (hopefully) be recovered successfully from the DAT tape he sent me, and made publicly available soon.

(Oh, and Musashi5150 reckons I'll be the only person to ever play this, so if you download and use it let him know by posting a comment here!)

I want that DAT audio. Maybe someone can make the game play the CD audio tracks?

Thank you both for this!

You're welcome It was quite interesting to put it together but the task was made easier by being able to start with girvs WHDLoad install. Then I could just concentrate on removing the reliance on WHDLoad, putting the loader in and getting it to fit into RAM. There's the possibility of doing other games in the future... I know HeavyStylus has suggested one already

Stephen Rushbrook (Game Artist) surgested on my Youtube vid that IPF 0276 (version 1.04) was intended for the planned CD32 release.

@Mad-Mat - I spoke with Steve about this and you are correct. However, Musashi5150 and I both prefered the original blue HUD and Green briefing gfx, so we used version 1.0.

FYI, Version 1.1 features a bug fix (supporting a second drive), and 1.4 has slightly different gfx (plasma on title screen is different colour, briefings are pink, HUD is rust coloured. AFAIK, version 1.4 does not support the CD32 pad - you still need a keyboard to access the menu (Function keys).

Oh, and that DAT did not contain the soundtrack, so it seems to be lost forever

also 1.4 has a bit more anoying control in the Core area, not so easy to hover and shoot.

A pity. I had an email exchange with composer Jason Page a few years ago, and he confirmed the existence of unreleased Uridium CD32 tracks. However he didn't have this infamous DAT tape and subsequent contacts with Steve Turner failed to resurface it. There's always the Immortal 3 Uridium track I guess.

What a cheek!
EDIT: (eBay link removed - no longer valid)

Not sure if I should be angry or flattered about someone selling my conversion. Either way I'm not sure I approve. He's selling some of HeavyStylus other conversions too - what a naughty man

Wink

Nice work Musashi

Would it be possible to make Rob Northern's loader operate without the dependency on the CD32.TM

If you try to build an ISO with CDTV.TM or boot from CD0 with neither trademark you get "Something has gone wrong. Please reset.",

Good to see you are still active

P.S is this the same loader on Out To Lunch? as I remember having similar problems with that game.

Hello whitesnake, long time no speak

Why would you want to make the disc without CD32.TM? The game has been reworked for a CD32 so that's all it will work on. It won't run from an Amiga with a CD drive or a CDTV or anything else. At least you found the error message I thought no one would ever see

I don't know if it's exactly the same code (it probably has some revisions) but yes, the loader is the same kind as used on Out to Lunch. This version was actually taken from Cannon Fodder though as after a brief email exchange with Mr Northen he recalls that as the last game that used this loading system.

Really it was just for the purpose of having multiple games on one CD etc.

As you know booting the CD32 with a CDTV.TM leaves you with more available ram as opposed to CD32.TM which is quite a bit less, and the loss memory isn't recoverable through standard means.

e.g. Avail Flush etc

I don't think the loader has reliance on the CD32.TM. At a guess I'd say it's the bootcode I've written for Uridium. But as I made it to be booted on a CD32 and I drop the operating system shortly afterwards memory wasn't an issue for me. Also I like to see the CD32 animation

Hi there - I can't believe that someone is trying to sell those CDs over ebay. Oh well, I pity the customers who are stupid enough to buy it!

musashi5150, we should do another one of these some time

That's unfortunate Heavy Stylus.

Another Rob Northern loaded game sounds like a good idea I'd like to see the loader used on Super Street Fighter II AGA, I know Viddi and BooBoo made it work on the CD32 but it only loads if you boot with CDTV.TM.

it is so on the limit that if you start populating the the CD with other games it refuses to load (Street Fighter Compilation out the window) as the CD32 loses vital ram due to data/directory caching etc.
I also made sure there wasn't stuff conflicting with SSFII by just booting the game clean at startup

I tried using the lowest possible values for Data Cache and Dir Cache on ISOCD and it isn't enough unfortunately. =[

The Lion King and Aladdin would be a nice addition, Disney Double Header

Also Primal Rage
