Which Cyberstorm?
K, what are the panels view on the various Cyberstorms?
Choice between a MK-III with 060, a PPC 233M w 060, or a PPC604 w060 I'm happy with an 060, but is there any s/w out there that uses the PPC? All reviews seem to end at the back of the '90s, with a lot of negative comments. Has the situation changed since hen, is there any s/w that makes use of the PPC? Is there an OS or game that uses it? Experiences, comments, thoughts appreciated. Many thanks Alan |

The second two you mention are actually the same thing. They had either the Cyberstorm Mk3 060 and the Cyberstorm PPC (which had a 060 and 604e PPC chip at various speeds).
I have a Mk3 and it's nice and fast for an 060. The PPC is required to run the future OS4.0. If you can find/afford the PPC get it. But, beware they are very fragile. |

I think you'll be lucky to get any of them at a "reasonable" price.
And if you do, chances are it will be broken. Last year I bought a Cyberstorm MKIII for around the £100 and it turned out to be broken |

If its genuine, the 604 w/ 060 is definately the best. There's quite a lot of s/w that will make use of the PPC, it's mostly serious apps, but combined with a GFX and sound card, you get a really useable system, that's capable of doing most of the stuff you could want on a computer, and doing it in a nicer way than any other system available...
I've got a CS MKII 040/40 w/ the SCSI module and it's very nice, but I sure would like to move up to PPC and win the lottery, so I can afford it... |

Well, resaonable is less than 800euro, so its within budget. And its from a retailer, so should work. Will be replacing a Warp Engine 040@40... Really looking forward to having a reasonable SCSI interface; its only the Miggy's here that are using fast-scsi now, and drives are getting scare, whereas I have a few UW and a great many U2 SCSI drives doing nowt. Should be interesting seeing what runs better - Picasso IV or Cybervision 64/3D - under 060.
When is OS/4 due? And whatever happened to PIOS? |

800 EUR is far too expensive. Check out www.compcity.nl, they have one for 456 EUR.
OS4 is available to beta testers now. Don't know if they have an official release date set for the classic version. PIOS? AFAIK, dead since the 90s. The graphics cards won't necessarily run faster (than an 060) with the PPC, since the RTG software is 68k code. However, the extra horsepower will definately make more complex games run. (ie. Quake, Quake 2, Wipeout, etc.) You might also look into PCI busboards if you want to max out your system. I have a Voodoo 3 3000, Sound Blaster 128, 10/100 NIC, and TV card in my A4000 desktop using the Elbox 4000Di. Although I wait for the day I can afford a PPC it's a nice usable setup. |

And ordered. Many thanks, as I was pipped to the post with the one on ebay (ands the other place has a restricted shopping cart at the moment....)
But I won the Picasso IV tho :-) When it arrives, I might just buy a tower case. But will need to free up some room here first... drowning in computers.... is there a gallery on here? |

This help ?
I downloaded a couple of files from Phase5 site, end of last year.
I remember one of them was labelled as Cyberstorm even though I was looking for Blizzard stuff. I`ve uploaded a file called Phase5.lha to the zone. The SCSI installer script says its for Cyberstorm I/II but doesn`t mention III. These files were old when I downloaded them - don`t know if there are newer versions but I couldn`t find the Phase5 site again. Not sure if it`s what you need, good luck! |
