SOTB Remake

Latest Download:
http://www.box.com/s/lt2e4gkgexq6k1hgef4u

Current Plan:

Gameplay:

- Enemies: More Organised/Specific Spots

- Bosses: Multiple Parts/More Dynamic
For example:

Modes:

- 3D: Anaglyph/Choosable Colour Combos

- Original (3D Option): Extra frames

Cutscenes:

- Slideshows/With Animated Elements

- Blocks of text

Asthetics:

- Sprites: Extra frames/Four Times

- Backgrounds: More Layers Inside

- Animations: More Transition Animations

Ever since I first played Shadow of the Beast, I have wondered if there was more wonders in the game than could meet the eye. Every detail in the drawings and sprites is what makes Shadow of the Beast as great as it is, with the art style and graphics very impressive for it's time period. But, what if you could see more? What if those original complicated shapes and animals that created the mystical mood that made the game so magical could be even more defined? Well, that is what I am here to do.

As you can see from this, all sprites will be enlarged to 4 times their original size, and drawn in a realistic, but somewhat stylized way. On the title screen of the game, he is clearly shown, the sprite I have drawn doesn't really use any of that, but rather takes elements of that and mixes them with the shapes and proportions of the original sprite.

I'm next onto the running animation, a really tough challange!

If anyone wants to help, please do.

Well.. heh, I can add things like lives, continues or whatever, but the game is as it is. A challenge. I guess with continues, it'd be more fun as you can try to work it out more within one go, but meh.

Secondly, extra animations add to the fun factors for some people, and this remake will definitely support that.

It's more about the dull enemy waves/Boss fights. Maybe a brand new SotB game would be the real challenge.

I can easily fix that. I understand about all this, and I intend to make the boss fights much more.. fun and dramatic, especially the final boss.

As for ordinary enemies, adding new enemies will do that some good.

I'd rather not make a new beast game, as they kinda went in the wrong direction to me.

Thanks alkis.

Here is an example on how the final boss can be a bit more than just punching a toe:

You keep your gun with you, then, in the final boss you use it to attack various parts of his body, after the toe and chicken drumstick fight, floating on a platform, you ly up and attack his body to kill him. I could expand this in may ways, and do the same kind of thing to other bosses.

Lastly, animation evolution:

Colouring next.

Your pictures look fantastic, I love how you've kept them as close as you did to the original design.

What a nice project! I hope you manage to keep it close to the original. What's on your mind about the music? Do you think it'd be worthwhile to ask permission to use the remixed tracks found in the first Amiga Immortal CD? Or do you prefer an original score?

It'd be nice for someone to redo the tunes with modern... cleaness. I can't really discribe it, but I guess someone could make the music 'HD' aswell.

I see what you mean, but I guess it's not an easy task. You'd need someone really experienced, this music is classic... However I believe those remixes from 1999 are really good, and extremely faithful to the original (the contrary is usually the problem with remixes). They sound like "enhanced" versions (the Immortal ones) - maybe even "HD"!

Why not use 'Metallic Rain'. It's faithful to the original and from the same era

http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=55910

You just need to e-mail Vangelis and ask nice if you can sample it.

I am rubbish at art and programming but know that the artwork you have produced looks amazing and very faithful to the great game. Good luck with it all.

Good point Brookser, I might need someone to program an engine, I can try myself, but all those moves and animations... I dunno.

Anyway, for the heck of it, frame 1 of walk done:

Best man for the job would almost certainly be Dj.Thunder who made the Thalion Lionheart remake.

I imagine you might need to do him a favour in return (like update the Lionheart gfx for him?)

Bah, I can't devote any more time to anything else... I guess I'll probably use the original track. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it is there?

Do you mean SFX and Music - I have the Sega Mega CD version of Beast 2 if that would help as a shortcut which has audio tracks that could be ripped but might not be as faithful to the Amiga classic.
