Nitro is my favourite too and atleast part of the reason is the music, it's really good, and the graphics too.

I still remember the cheat code, "MAJ"

Racing Pitch sets you to be the engine for a racing car! You must use a microphone to mimic the engine sound, which the game will listen and set you blazing forward accordingly. The game features both party games and track challenges, and you can even take a break from racing to fly with a hot-air balloon. It leaves you breathless!

much fun

I see Death Rally has been mentioned. There is an official free Windows-port of it nowadays, finally got the opportunity to try this game I have heard so much about during the years.

I found the game very hard, tried it several times but could not win a single race at all! How are you supposed to win a race when your car is so slow?

BTW, here is another nice non-Amiga top down racer: http://www.mobygames.com/game/ignition

Tried http://hol.abime.net/1194 Rally cross challenge also, nice game, once you learn controls. Top down f"n rulez 2k11!!!

Champion Driver is an underated overhead racing game with a great career mode which lets you progress from go-karts to touring cars to f1.

Just thought I'd hijack this thread to state that if you've got an Android device that gots a Tegra chip, you can try our game, Bang Bang Racing. It was very much create with Supercars and Nitro in mind.

Nice game, why are they wasting such a nice looking game for to being a silly phone-game?

Release it on Steam instead or port it to underground computers, support Amiga, every amiga user pays 5 euro, instant millionaire.

Awesome racer, with many cool graphics details, and one of the first Amiga games ever!
I'm fond of this game, it's always a great idea to set a campfire in the middle of a race ! Shame it just has so few levels to drive on.

And I like PowerDrive and don't care what the reviews say

I'm a huge fan of this genre.
My absolute favorites on Amiga are Super Cars 2 and Nitro, and both have already been mentioned.

However, regarding non-Amiga top-down racers, one that really stands out for me is Racing Gears Advance on the GBA. Lots of tracks, lots of characters/cars to choose from, upgrades, weapons and it looks nice too (on a GBA screen - not so great through emulation on 32" LCD TV)!
