I don't think the used WHDLoad version is the culprit, most probably there is a real bug in the game which is randomly triggered.

ok spirit of excalibur 3 disks only play the music, display a screen portion of crap, and then quit straight back to workbench.

my 2 disks version from ubisoft reacts the same as the 3 disks version.

And it is strange, but i seem to see the Vertical blank going top of the screen to bottom quite fast, with no lighting from my "hard drive".

Black Screen, music plays, then when i press the mouse button, it quit back to WB.

Vengeance of Excalibur, the screen remains black after the blue WB loading screen.

I tried to run both slaves with the WHDLOAD 18.4 beta version, both games run without any problems it seems. This must be a WHDLOAD issue.

After quite a bit of debugging I think the problem is in the Kickstart emulation code. Can those of you who had trouble running the patch using WHDLoad 18.3 try the attached slave and tell me if there is any difference?

No joy with this either I’m afraid. I get a blue workbench loading screen for a split second then just a black screen. It happens on my A600 with furia and my A1200 with ACA1221.

Just installed 18.4 beta and it is indeed working now on my A1200.

Then it might indeed be a WHDLoad problem.
This entry in the history for 18.4:
"- fix: fixed wrong results with resload_ExNext introduced in 18.3,
e.g. game Ork Attack (Psygore)"

sounds pretty much like the fix for the problem.

Yeah something must have changed in the WHDload as it’s also working fine now on my A600 with furia. I guess it’s a good time for everyone to update to the 18.4 beta now.

It is good to see that Spirit and Vengence of Excalibur are finally available to be WHDLoaded..
I have noticed something tho.
Both Spirit and Vengence enhance the graphics if you have 1 Meg of Chip ram.

The WHDLoad is shown with the unenhanced gfx. (basically you knights get more then one suit of armour, and different shields.)

I don't like patches that required 1MB chip when it is not necessary. However, I wouldn't have known about the enhanced graphics if you hadn't posted here so I will supply 2 slaves in the next update, one for 512K chip and one for 1MB chip. This will not happen soon though, I'll most probably do this once someone reports a problem with the current patches and I need to update them.

I have patched both your slaves here for myself to have 1 meg of chip.
Yes it was a one line change, (so hard haha).
Took me longer to get my VASM install working.

So I can confirm that they now both show the enhanced graphics.

So If StingRay's gives me permission, I could upload them, but it is totally upto him, otherwise wait for his release.

Also, is there a major difference between the 2-disk and 3-disk version or is it just that they noticed the whole game might fit on two disks as well?
