Ultima Iv

Hi there, I´m new to this board

I have the following problem with either ULTIMA 4 or WINUAE:

When I start the game it wants a PLAY DISK!!

I know I can create that from the start menu, but I HAVE NO MOUSE SUPPORT for that game in winuae though by now I´ve tried a lot of configurations and winuae versions

I´ve also tried an OLD version of winfellow...THIS has the mouse pointer in the game but trying to create a play disk it gives a GURU error

So, please can anybody help me getting this disk or a mouse pointer??? thank you very very much in advance

just make sure windows mouse is selected for port 0, if that for some reason doesn't work, try *mouse or raw mouse instead.

Be sure to try "Cycle Exact" emulation option too...

Thanks, but that was already activated

When the "amiga dos" window shows, I have the usual red mouse pointer but when the game starts the mouse is gone.

The sad thing is that the OLD version of winfellow I got shows the ultima 4 mouse pointer (a hand) but has a guru error each time i try to create a play disk while the new wf version also shows no mouse in game

Well what settings are you using?
Ultima IV requires no special config, a basic quickstart a500 config should work.

I think it wouldn´t be illegal if someone sent me a play disk adf?
I mean, I own this game and still got the box with the ankh and map

Would having no slow RAM make any difference at all? (Clutching at straws here, I admit.)

Try OCS rather than ECS.

I've put Ultima IV in the zone for you (read the faq)

I suggest you download both disks, as it sounds like there's something wrong with your copy.

Can you also tell me the command to use to create a play disk? , I am running it on my amiga today of my flash drive and it loads finr but it needs a play disk, I kinda assumed that would be an amiga disk which gets used but I put a used amiga disk in of mine with write protect off but it doesnt register as a play disk, is the play disk another ultima disk? also if its created with a command I would be very greatful if someone can tell me what the command is or send me a PM

Hi thanks belgrath , I did join the zone but Im away to check out the FAQ as I cant remember if thats the one where you only get to use the file on the day its live or something? either way thanks for uploading, hehe see it listed there for me thanks!

The Zone! is a temporary file storage area where uploaded files only last for 7 days before getting removed.

If I remember correctly, the Play disk is created from the 3 install disks, during the installation process to disk or hard disk. This is the only way to start a game from scratch.

Thanks for the input, I actually found instructions for creating a play disk, they said to format a disk and Label it player so I did


33. Format one blank disk. (Refer to your DOS manualfor the procedure.)
Label this disk "PLAYER."
format drive df0: name PLAYER

I did this on my amiga and the format was succesful on a proper amiga floppy but it didnt work, even though the disk was fine and was named PLAYER.

What I initially did was installed ultima to my CF flash drive in winuae and then booted workbench and double clicked the ultima 6 icon, it loads great but get the playdisk thing.

Prior to all this I did an HD install and all it did was copy all the files to my flash drive and at the end Im left in a workbench window , so no specific option for creating a play floppy disk and no instructions for how to make one. Im trying to find out if there is some command. Btw I tried the installed ultima on my amiga and thats when I tried to format an amiga floppy playdisk but it still asks for playdisk and the thing is , it all loads and everything and I THINK the playdisk is the games means of saving so there must be a way to create one, unless Ive got it all wrong which is a high possibility hehe

Its my hard disk with cf flash card so at the end of the 3 disks installing I have a workbench like screen, what then to create the play disk? If its on the HDD whys it not picking it up, sorry PLAYER disk I should say

Some of my ultima disks are unreadable but I have managed to find a player disk , however it says , when I try to use this disk, a game is already in progress please install to create a character disk, so say I install to my flash drive on the amiga as opposed to through win uae do you think it will correctly let me create a character disk?
