PFS3 Problem

Dear all,

I am not sure where I should post this topic but I will start here, sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I have purchased a 1200 with a 16gb compact flash card with WHDLoad installed, everything was running nicely I was playing a game and after a particular save point it hung so now when I try to open any folder on that partition I get an error, it was installed with PFS3 from what I can see.

I have tried to get hold of a copy of pfs3 from here but they no longer exist.

http://www.thecryptmag.com/Online/16/PFS3.html

I have tried running a partition repair tool on it but nothing already installed will recognise it or I am looking in the wrong location.

Is there a way to get this fixed and is PFS3 still the fastest way to go or should I change to something else ?

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance

Ray

Welcome to EAB!
The source code to PFS was released in 2011. Toni Wilen of WinUAE fame released an improved version which I highly recommend.

It's on Aminet:

What error exactly? pfsdoctor is available from official aminet pfs3 release package. (It is not in pfs3aio package)

Thanks for the info about the new version, this is the error I get, it only happens when I try to open a folder on the games partition everything seems to work.

Yeah, as far as I know, the newer version Toni has worked on the past year should exactly address this, amongst other stuff, ain't I right Toni?

Unfortunately pfsdoctor can't fix it (In theory it could be done but it would require dozens of broken test cases to guarantee it does not cause any other problems..)

Only sure way is to back up all data, install fixed version (pfs3aio v3 or later) to RDB, format it and copy all data back.

I got this multiple wrong ablock id errors.. when running PFSDoctor is states:
ERROR: anodeblock seqnr 0 blocknr 67714 has an incorrect id
..
Eventually PFSDoctor hangs when checking the deldir:
ERROR: delfile anode error
ERROR: deffile anode 0x10002 error
... hangs here

This is a PFS3 package.. can't remember if it is PFS3AIO - should be.
Disk was formatted with PFS-II 18.5 says PFSDoctor.
Since the PFSDoctor got stuck I kinda hesitate running a fix to the broken partition.
There are few files I'd like to salvage from the partition, like the latest sources for some secret stuff I have been working on
I am just wondering what my options are..?

PFS3AIO 19.0 or 19.1 fixed original PFS3 bug that can cause block id errors if drive is "large" (~>5G). It usually can only happen when lots of (small) files are created very quickly (for example unpacking archive with huge amount of tiny files).

Confirm version with "version full name_of_drive:"

Safest recovery method is to copy files to other partition/drive. pfsdoctor can't fix this problem (if it really was caused by above bug).

Ok. I'll get the full version once I get access to the a600 again later this week.
Btw, the disk is 4G CF and unfortunately I cannot see a single file in the broken partition anymore.

Try this: http://aminet.net/package/disk/salv/pfssalv2
You need another hdd to copy the files to, though.

You can try this: http://www.winuae.net/files/b/pfsdoc...perimental.zip

Note that it is command line only. Try "CHECK" parameter first.

Thanks a bunch!!
I tried the CHECK and get this output, which eventually seems not to progress any further:

Deldir 2...
ERROR: Delfine anode error
ERROR: Delfile anode #lx error

I'll probably go forward and reformat this dead partition and prep it with a newer version of PFS3aio.

Updated to a more recent 19.2 PFS3aio.. btw while I was at it I also ran pfsdoctor repair for the sake of it because I was about to format the partition anyway. I left it running and went doing other stuff. Later when I came back to my surprise repair had completed and got my files back There was a lot of anode and bitmap errors... and I think I was just too impatient earlier times
Sorry for wasting ppls time..
