No more Retro Gamer

Looks like Live Publishing have gone into administration. No more Retro Gamer.

Ah well, it was good while it lasted.

Yeh, the forums on the Live Publishing website are closed. Here's a little snippet courtesy of Google re: the bad news of magazine closures, redundancies and restructuring at Live:

What a bummer! Retro Gamer just did the Zzap!64 retro mag tribute too and looked to be going from strength to strength

This reminds me very much of the old times, when one by one the magazines I loved closed down.

Regular RG forumites might want to check: http://forum.retrosurvival.co.uk

A number of freelancers who unfortunately weren't paid for their articles are going to put together a DVD or CD with extended versions of their old articles and new articles that were written for issue 19 and beyond.

Here's a short article about the closure of Live Publishing, btw: http://www.mcvuk.com/newsitem.php?id=451

That really sucks.

I first found Retro Gamer when I saw the Anthology issue. It was the first magazine I saw in the last 4 years that was actually worth buying. (rather than just reading in the store)

Just a few days ago I was considering buying the latest issue which had a nice "history of the videogame" section, but thought I'd wait for the next issue. Now there won't be a next issue.

Its a bugger as I only just sent off my cheque last month to renew my subscription

Feel sorry for the writers too - It was a great mag..

On the bright side (for me) I have every single issue in pristine condition with an official binder.

Gutted. Would probably explain why I couldn't find issue 19 anywhere on Thursday, when it was due out. As someone else has said, it was the only games mag worth buying. But at least I managed to buy every issue (and the Anthology as well).

No WAY !!!! That news is so bad, I looked forward to it every issue and have got every one sans Issue 1 & 2. So which one was the final issue, is it the one with the Zzap supplement or is there one more after that?

Probably Edge will be the last one to publish special issues on retrogaming. Last winter's RETRO was really good.

Have you seen that one in Oz out of interest? Only seen the issue with stuff related to a couple of Sega titles (Panzer Dragoon), locally, would be curious to see the Zzap tribiute.

Just bought a second copy of the last issue, because the first one I bought didn't come with the Zzap supplement. That makes three issues I've bought twice - once because I'd forgotten that I'd already bought it, and twice because they kept shipping issues without the freebies.

At least they can't pull that trick any more.

A new RETRO magazine is on the way folks !

RETRO:BYTES Magazine announced. 09:06

I am working with Paul Andrews (of the Alten8.com group) and a consortium of investors to launch a Retro magazine November 2005. The magazine will be called RETRO:BYTES and will mix up scene and new developments with good old nostalgia.

There will be eight issues a year from January 2006 (the second issue is planned to be out roughly two months after the first) and I believe that we have a strong stable of writers to make the magazine worth reading. More details will be announced shortly.

I ordered a copy of the Zzap tribute directly from Live Publishing as well as a copy of the last issue + tribute because they said that non-subscribers weren't going to get it (unless they bought it from WH Smiths in the UK). They sent me the tribute, but not the last issue + tribute (good thing I ordered using VISA). Not that I've looked, but it'll be interesting to see if the last issue makes it on to the newsagent shelves here given Live's closure.
