Post Voodoo 3 3000 PCI Card

Please help i`m a noob when it comes to towering and seriously upgrading your Amiga.

In a previous post i touched on the fact that i was having serious problems with an EGS 28/24
Spectrum Graphics Board, well now i`ve been wondering if i should ditch the spectrum in favour of a Voodoo 3 3000 graphics card? i have a mediator busboard installed in my A1200T just not the PCI
Driver CD, not a problem since i see AmigaKit sell it.

Please help me as i do need the advice of people who know what they are
talking about.

Also i`m thinking of re-housing my A1200 as i`m growing very tired
of my Micronik infinitiv case, can anyone suggest a better case for
the A1200? Don`t mind hacking a PC Tower.

Hello there,

hmmm if i am not mistaken, I believe the Driver CD is Key locked to specific mediator PCI Series ? best to double check that before purchase as I may well be wrong.

AmigaKit should be able to advise you better on that product,

Hmmm yes the Micronik infinitive case really is ...... well.... drastic plastic, if only it was constructed from metal! however it will do for one of my a1200 power miggy's

for my other one, it will be hand made i think, as I want it in a desktop

ahhhh well you may have a slight problem

the Z-3i bus board PCI ports are Inert as are the ISA slots.

you would need a Bridge card for either. as far as i know the only one that exists is one for the Zorro to ISA Bridge.

you could get GG+ or 286 / 386 or 486slc golden gate - pc emulator
this would bridge the Zorro ISA ports and allow some level of access to the ISA cards, such like Sound card or Network card.

But as far as I am aware the Z3i PCI ports will not in anyway communicate with the amiga so you would actually need a mediator PCI board .

@Zetr0

i might go down the mediator route! was strange after i posted a reply i went
to AmigaKit and realised that the graphics & sound cards will only work with
the mediator busboard i still wish i could get to the bottom of the spectrum
problem,i think i`d stick with it if only i could figure out why i only get 2 of 3
colours displying. warning @Zetr0 my next post will probably be installing
Amithlon, seriously thankyou for all your help lets hope one day in the future
i can return the favour.

Another potential convert to Amithlon, eh?

There are many paths to 'Amiga' so why not follow them all.

Having another Amiga project to frustrate the hell out of you while you give another equally frustrating project a rest could be good therapy.

The trick is actually finishing one eventually - something I rarely manage.

@Charlie

Yeah i blame you really since i was reading about your step by step guide to
installing Amithlon i downloaded the PDF though i haven`t had time to
read through it yet.

Which is really better Amithlon or AmigaOS XL? as i`m new to this and (confession time) dipped out of the Amiga Scene back when it was released.
Always had one just haven`t always used it and it`s only in the last year i
decided to tower my A1200,i guess thats why i`m still having teething problems but i`ll get there....by that time i`ll have decided to go for a Amiga PPC

For my next trick....i`ll be adding yet more Amiga related problems in
my life....running an Amiga Emulator on a XBOX (sorry for swearing)
has anyone done this here?

Amithlon is better. AmigaOS XL is just plain UAE running inside an OS nobody cares about for their desktop..

Yep, that's about the size of it.

'...an OS nobody cares about for their desktop' is QNX.

Quick point:
My guide is the ugly, long-winded one without piccies. (I really must get round to updating it) There is another guide on my Box.net account. (shorter, lots of nice piccies) I didn't write that one - included in the event you don't like my guide.
But so far most of the requests for help have been to do with that 'other' guide so I guess mine must be better written!

Thank you.

Most of the updates I have in mind are to do with newer drivers that have become available since its writing.
Others have to do with feedback kindly given in the Amithlon thread.
Some thought also on rewriting the guide - I think I've struck the balance ok but there's plenty of fine-tuning to do.
I really ought to do another full install myself some time so I can add some piccies, but time always time...
I'm also considering adding topics on ways to enhance the basic package: What patches work well; how to semi-seamlessly integrate chipset support; how to do Warp3D in Amithlon; how to hack the *ird.gz files for your own purposes...
(The last is already done & that guide is still hopefully still lurking in AmithlonOpen)

Lots of ideas, so little time...
...life I suppose.

Regards.

PS
Although I'm obviously an Amithlon Zelot (you've gotta be some kind of zelot in Amiga circles ) X-Amiga is well worth checking out if you're looking to a more 'straightforward' approach.

What makes 2008 the year of Amithlon? It's already several years old as a product..

Hi Jope,

I guess what makes 2008 the year of Amithlon is there are still people out
there like myself that left the Amiga Scene a while ago and will come back
to it,Amiga OS at the end of the day is really user friendly unlike winblows
and it`s a pleasure to use.

Maybe we are wrong about it being Amithlon`s year but it`s better to live
in hope than have no hope at all.

I'm afraid I gave up hope a long time ago.. Amithlon was one of my last chances I was willing to give to the Amiga's comeback and they managed to f*ck it up.. I believed in it so much I paid for it and participated in every Amithlon community I could find.. Advocated it, used it, believed in it.

Yet it all ended in a disappointment and a big fight between the two people who were behind it.

It's a nice curiosity, though, but just as dead as everything else Amiga. ;-)

@Jope

I understand where you`re coming from that`s why i gave up on Amiga when
a certain well known mag finally shut it`s doors, through the lack of support!
back then support was hard to find anway but that certain mag kept us all
going and trying to believe that Amiga would rise from the ashes (it hasn`t)
and even if in the future it does it`s not going to be the Amiga we all know
and love.

I`m a collector of retro computers & consoles so for me it`s about preserving
but also there is a passion there and a belief that one day....just one day
things will change for us miggy owners,i may well be blinded by retro feelings
but the desire to use and support Amiga in anyway i can is still there even though i`ve had endless problems with my system and i`m probably about
to mess up the Amithlon install
