A maximum of 4MB of Static RAM (SRAM) may be added using the card slot.

A 2GB SD card is fine in an appropriate adapter fitted to the PCMCIA slot. For best compatibility, choose a SanDisk card.

I use these ones in my A1200 and A600. They work with 2GB SD cards, but they don't support 4GB+ SDHC cards. You can get CF adapters that will accept CF cards of any size, and there are SDHC adapters too, but they cost too much for me to afford so I haven't tried one yet.

You cannot boot from PCMCIA without a ROM upgrade so you'll need another boot medium. IDE hard drive or floppy disk.
You'll of course need the PCMCIA CFD driver and possibly FAT filesystem installed on the boot disk. |

Kakaboy, I'm sorry that your card doesn't work, maybe you got a faulty one. When I got mine I ordered three just in case one was busted. They all worked though, so I'm not sure why yours doesn't.
Philophus, thanks for that info, I wasn't too sure if they'd work or not so now that I know they definitely won't work (at least yet) then I won't bother trying to keep an eye on them anymore. |

CF Cards
I use SanDisk UltraII 15MB/s of 4 and 8GB without problems.
Testing from other manufacturers like Transcend works (on my system) only at little sizes like 2GB but at 4 or 8GB the system don't recognizes the cards..... The adapter is an older PCMCIA from EPSON (comes with an old camera lot of years a go) and works fine.... |
