Hi again,
I just want to sum up what happened with this. The drive is working OK now, but it does give a bit more read/write errors than the internal drive. I opened up the A500 and attached a DF1 as DF0 switch, and indeed the cable for the switch for the roms was burned! I re-soldered and moved all the switches to the back. I took out the gotek usb drive and connected it to an external floppy drive cable, and I placed a floppy drive as internal drive. I cleansed all my floppies of viruses, and I did find a few. After using the drive for a while I had less DF1:BAD failures, and then less and less. It seems as the drive needed to get into shape by spinning for a period of time (many hours). While using X-Copy it quite often give some "8" errors in the middle of the sectors, but I can copy between the internal and the gotek so it is ok. But, Arnie, I would be happy to know how to use the switches on the back. B you said was for the Blitzcopy, I got a copy of it, and V for anti-virus. |
