0.9V for the 12V line isn't right.

Make sure your power supply is OK. Measure the 12V line at the internal floppy power connector, and at the external floppy connector.

the old drive need 5 and 12 volt

verify on df0 if you have 5 and 12 volt

Today I began to investigate about 12V.
Amiga DB-23 outputs both 5V and 12V. On the drive I found 5V but not the 12V even if I measure it at the fist pin where the cable is connected (0.9V). I checked continuity and it was ok.

The worst is that, after some measurements attempts on the drive A1011 connected to the Amiga DB-23, I decided to have a pause and to play something.
Well, no drive works anymore now

The df0 "clicks" as usual but, if I put a disk to boot from it, Amiga continue to boot from HD and doesn't show me anything about the inserted disk. For Amiga df0 has no disk inserted. DF1 and DF2 don't "clicks" anymore and they work as df0:, no activity.

My Compact Flash card reader says me that CF0: is unknown.
Amiga Test Kit says me that df0 could be a Gotek!!!!

Nooooooo , I think something seriously went wong today and on A1011 a short on the eletric part of the drive may have corrupted the Amiga side of the disk controller.

I already said that some days ago Amiga part near DB-23 floppy stinked when having external drive problems. Now I think that the problem get worse and its effects are those I reported.

I don't know what to do.
That is enough for today , tomorrow is another day.

If you have any kind of advice I really appreciate!!

Oh, sorry, I missed the burning smell part in your original post. I've reread it again and it is clear - so not sure how I missed it.

I would stop plugging the A1011 in, as it seems it has a short somewhere.

Check your A1200 to locate the component that was burnt. It is likely to be one of the EMI components of the DB23 floppy port. Maybe post some pictures of that area.

On the A1011 I would use the multimeter to check for any shorts to/from ground, 5v or 12v.

Today I opened my A1200 to have a look of the mobo situation, and as soon as I completely removed it from its shell all became explicit .
There is an area near the floppy drive connector completely burnt. I post the photo representing how the motherboard was and how is.

I took the "was" picture form amiga.resources.cx
A question: in amiga.resources.cx is represented the rear of a mobo R1D1, mine is R1D4. Are they, about that piece of hardware, the same?

As soon as I saw the situation I passed from the hope to the darker desolation .

Please, I don't deserve this... I just wanted to play...

Thank you for any advice

Oh, I'm so sorry to see that.

You can look at the board layout and schematics at:

amigapcb.org

https://www.amigawiki.org/dnl/schematics/A1200_R1.pdf

It looks like the E597R (resistor) and E597C (capacitor) on the 12V line has been nuked. And E598R and E598C for the 5V line has taken a hit too.

Try cleaning it up get a better idea of the actual damage and see whether it can be repaired, but it doesn't look good at all.

Clean it up some more with isopropyl alcohol - it might look worse than it actually is.

If you are lucky then it is just the E597R 200 ohm resistor on the 12V line that is damaged, but obviously the components in the blast radius should in theory be replaced too.

A break on the 12V line on the external floppy connector will affect any drive that uses it. It looks like the A1011 does use it, and is probably the one that shorted the 12V line - so you should not connect it back to the Amiga.

I would use Amiga Test Kit to perform a health check - especially for functions/features that the components and traces in this area are used in. Again, use these resources to help identify what might be impacted:

http://amigapcb.org
https://www.amigawiki.org/dnl/schematics/A1200_R1.pdf

If you don't feel confident in repairing it yourself then send it to somebody that can. Or live with the fact that the 12V line will not be available on the external floppy port (if the only issue is just that).
