Vampire is getting IDE and it's blazing fast !

Hi guys,

While kipper is busy soldering, development of Vampire continues and V500 is getting an IDE port... and IT'S FAST !!

Personally I'm not bothered about the speed. Just the Ide port alone is good news.

Since it's still in testing, it's too soon to say. I don't think that it should be terribly incompatible since most of the workings of the computer are reimplemented on the FPGA.

That is some impressive speed already. Will the work done on this also eventually help to increase speed on the sagasd.device speed (for us with the V600) or are the implementations very different?

I suspect that the SD.device (SPI implementation) will eventually catchup (in terms of data transfer) to the IDE implementation currently working on the prototype V2-A500.

I believe the Apollo guys are really pushing the envelope to get as many features as possible working on the CPU side of the processor.

Oh, I thought this was the SD card interface, implemented as an IDE interface in the FPGA for the Amiga side

Since the A500 doesn't have on-board IDE like the A600, the v500 has a standard IDE connector. In order to drive this port, the relevant parts of the A600 chipset are reimplemented in the FPGA such that you get full compatibility with AOS. The major difference is that the v500 IDE is much faster than the original as you can see from the screenshot.

Oh I see it now. Wan't showing up on my work PC.

11MB/sec!! Insane. The fastest 'real' I've seen was 6-7MB using a Deneb in ZIII mode,

the FASTATA claims to be able to do 14Mbytes per second - even some pictures have been posted - sadly I have not been able to get much more than 8Mbyes per second and thats with an 060@80 pulling it.

On what depends the 11MB/sec.? CPU speed? Controller typ? ...?

Or why it is so slow?
