Annoying flickering during graphic or palette changes

On some demos I run, I'm experiencing these flickering patterns on the screen whenever there's changes in a colour palette or even animation. I've been told that JIT is most likely causing it, but I'm experiencing it even when I turn off JIT.

This demo in particular (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=3448) has a particularly horrible case of this glitch in the opening title and animation intro, and I cannot figure out how to make it go away.

Here is my current configuration: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5...UltYWlWOFc5YUE

In fact, a lot of other demos are flickering like this as well, mainly ones I haven't seen before, and I'm not sure why - the only thing I can think of is that the DirectX runtimes have recently been installed for a Steam game install, and maybe there's a conflict with WinUAE?

I've been meaning ask about this for a long while to.. if it is same "palette flickering" problem you mention, then it happens very often during AGA fades if CPU too fast.
Enabling cycle exact usually fixes it.. but I was also going to be cheeky and ask toni if it's possible to add some sort of 'hack' that stops it happening in fastest possible & JIT modes

That's exactly the problem, ED-209: if I select "Approx A500/A1200 or cycle exact" then the flickering goes away, but then this particular demo has a lot of routines that look best on a fast CPU, and they slow down horribly, to practically a slideshow.

That post is useless to me since I don't refer to 040 clock speeds whatsoever!

EDIT: I do apologise for this, didn't mean to be so rude.

You can't expect that the demo will run fine on other configuration than similar to a real one.

Here is an example of a real speed configuration and also a link to demo running on a real machine for comparison - [ Show youtube player ]

It runs exactly the same in configuration I mentioned in the link on post #4.

Btw. I haven't noticed the "palette flickering problem" running the demos on my PC at all.
Maybe it's something else causing it and not the WinUAE !?

The palette flickering is a recent issue, I'd never noticed it before a couple of weeks ago. It could've been because I recently installed an old game on Steam and it installed the DirectX Runtime Libraries, and it may be incompatible?

I already tried the CPU Slider myself in the A500/A1200 cycle exact mode: for the above demo at +0%, it's too slow, but it improves as I increase it, but then at a certain point the problem appears again. It's basically finding the right balance.

Amilo, I looked at your configuration and it was similar to how I'd been experimenting with the CPU slider to find the right balance, and it turns out the demo I linked to works best with your configuration, so I'm going to try it out for a while, see how I get on with others that have the flickering issue on my normal "Fastest possible" 040 config.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

Thanks for that nice config But i would say for that Demo 200% CPU speed is already too fast and producing already some slight glitches. But reducing to 150% delivers a very nice experience

Tested also DCS Klone again today, runs best if i reduce speed to around 130% - both without Jit

I noticed that too, but slow it down too much and the effects won't look as good. I particularly love that stained glass cube wall effect, never seen anything like it before or since.
