Ok, it's the best editor i have seen but it only lets you change names from an existing list of names which is a start tho. As it is not registered you cant change team details etc. Is there anyone out there that has a registered version of this?

Thanks again guy's.

EDIT: Btw i have tried to edit the the PC and copy that into the Amiga version but it don't work, thanks for the suggestion tho

EDIT: I would pay for someone to create an easy editor that allows you to actually create new players including new names etc

Hi,

I'm Paul, the co-author of CMEd.

I know it a few years ago, but....

Amazed

Wow,

I can't believe the little app I wrote with Allan Turvey back in 1995/1996 is still alive out there.

I was having Sunday lunch yesterday with my wife and a few friends when she mentioned to one of them that I had written an application many moons ago and sold it to people. There was a bit of scepticism around the dinner table so I did a quick search on my IPhone (how things have changed) and then I started to find forum posts from people who have been looking for me since 2002, and trying to get an unlocked version of the editor.

So it looks like we are just short of 13 years since the final release (v3.00) which went up to Aminet in early August 1996, I had just finished my first year at university. I still have the Amiga 1200 it was developed on in the garage but it has probably only been fired up once or twice in the last 13 years as I defected to the PC!

From what I can remember the app was written in AMOS basic and then compiled using the AMOS compiler, a bug in the AMOS compiler meant that if I compiled it on an Amiga 1200 with 68020 processor it wouldn't work on a A500 with 68000, so it became 68020 only.

I'm a bit short of time at the moment, my first child as born 6 weeks ago, but I will try and dig out the A1200 over the next few days and see if it will fire up still (might even treat myself a a game of SWOS), if it does still work then I can probably find the source and key file generator on the old 20mb hard drive.

I'm very rusty on the Amiga these days, how can I get the source off the machine? Is it possible to add a network card to an A1200? Any advice would be appreciated.

I'll let you know how it goes as soon as I find some time.

Do many people still play Championship Manager on the Amiga?

If I am successful I will release everything I have.

Hi Paul

The Amiga community is still very alive as you can see by the activity on EAB. It's great that you have taken the time to acknowledge you're still around and willing to do this for us. I for one do still play Championship Manager 93/94 all the time via WinUAE and I have always wanted to update the data to the current stats.

I'm not as technically minded as alot of the users on here when it comes to the Amiga hardware but there are a number of ways to transfer data from and to the Amiga using a PC, I'll let one of the more experienced members aid you for that.

Congratulations on the birth of your child, I'm sure I speak for the most of us that would love to see this editor that family life is priority and just knowing that in time I will eventually get my hands on a copy of the editor is enough for now.

Waiting with great anticipation.

Again I'm no expert but it is possible to link Amigas and PCs together and send stuff (serial cables and the like, I think) - you can also do it by good old-fashioned floppy disk. CrossDOS should be on your A1200 and if you use this then you can use 720K-formatted DOS disks on the Amiga. It's not an ideal method but if the files you want to transfer aren't especially big then it might be bearable.

Bad news.....

I dusted off the old A1200 last night and it fired up straght away, but........

It looks like the hard disk has given up the ghost. The Amiga hangs at a black screen when you switch it on and the HD makes a clicking noise, Pressing Ctrl-A-A reboots the Amiga and it will then load workbench off a floppy, but I cannot see the HD drive in Workbench, should it just be there? I tried firing up Shell and typing dir DH0: but it just asks for a disk to be inserted for DH0:

Am I doing this the right way?? Any other ideas?

I've ordered a 2.5" usb adapter form Ebay so i can try connecting the drive to my pc and see if I can get anything of it that way.

I'll keep trying, but if the drive is dead then I'm afraid CMEd is dead! I used to have it all backed up on floppy disks but there is no sign of them anymore. I'll also get my family to check in the loft back home, but that might take a good few weeks.

Sorry to have built up your hopes!

If all else fails do you think you may have the contacts of the people that purchased the full copy from you before who may be able to help? Obviously if they're still contactable.

Thanks for looking though.

EDIT: You say you co-wrote it, does your co-writer have a copy by any chance?

I lost touch with the co-author Allan Turvey in around 1996.

Good news,

I've managed to get the hard drive working, it's still got the key generator on there along with the unreleased version 3.02.

Give me a few more days and I should have all the files on my pc, just need to order a PCMCIA compact flash adapter.

Hi ronnie136,

Well done in resurrecting your hard drive!

Could you possibly post details of how you did it, please?

Troubleshooting tips of that kind are always welcome here on EAB!

Fixing the hard disk was more a case of perserverance than skill, I bought 3 disks worth of Amiga hard disk tools off Ebay and set about it with the HDToolbox tool on one of them. Looks like the hard disk has read errors on it which stops it spinning up properly, but ifleft the verify tool running on it for an hour or so eventually it seems to kick into life. I then reboot the Amiga and I can use the drive.

Took me quite a while to remember the old Amiga shell commands, but in the end I managed to copy off the source code and latest version of CMED and the keygen onto two of the floppies I bought off Ebay (had no other old 880kb floppies so had to sacrifice some of the tools I'd just bought).

Looks like the drive is dead again now, but atleast I got some stuff off it.

Next plan is to buy a PCMCIA flash card adapter and then I can copy the files to my PC. May even be able to get CMED source runing in WinUAE, if so I can generate specific key files for people, otherwise I'll just release my own personal one which I found on the drive.

Should hopefully grab the adapter this week, so all being well I'll have the stuff availble by the end of the week.

Finally got it all moved across to WinUAE on the PC, just installed AMOS Pro & Complier so I'm bringing out one last final version of CmEd (v3.10) with no protection in it. Should be ready later tonight, in the meantime here is the v3.0+ Changelog:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 3.01 - 26/11/95
File Size:- 396192 bytes
** NOTE ** Not a general public release!

BUG FIX Fixed stupid bug in prefs saving routine which stopped the
editor being able to autoload your selected files.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Version 3.02 - 15/07/96
File Size:- 412736 bytes
ADDITION Added shirts with proper colours to the shirt editing section.
ADDITION Added a 'Swap Player' option. This works as a nice
alternative to transfer method of moving players.
By using this method you can now transfer players to/from
abroad.
ADDITION Added a club analysis page, this lists various statistics
about a specified club.
ADDITION Added a routine to give a general rating for a player, thus
enabling users to guage how good a player is.
IMPROVEMENT Converted whole program to run in 8 colours, instead of 4,
this doesn`t affect the user, but it does make the program
more robust, when compared to the old system of having half
the program in 4 colours and half in 8 colours
IMPROVEMENT Improved file handling yet again!!! Now verifies all files
produced with the editor to ensure they are legal.
IMPROVEMENT Improved the Import/Export routines. Player's history is
now imported/exported as well as his stats.
IMPROVEMENT Made the 'View Penalty takers' list into a 'View
Goalscorers' when the chosen team is a computer team.
IMPROVEMENT Gave the all the documents ofr CmEd a good proof reading,
and generally improved them.
Reduced the size of the history file a bit.
Will probably cut out all pre-version 3.00 history in the
next release, or soon after.
BUG FIX Fixed bug in Prefs loading routine which prevented the editor
being able to load prefs created with older versions of the
editor.
BUG FIX Fixed bug in the `save update` and `player export` routines
which could cause the editor to sometimes claim there was
not enough room on the disk being saved to, when there was
actually enough room. This usually occured when Saving to
the Ram Disk.
BUG FIX Fixed MAJOR bug in the file requestor routine which caused
the editor to crash if you specified a device name (Eg df0
in the filename text gadget.
BUG FIX Fixed a number of bugs which caused text input boxes to
appear on screen mysteriously, if you clicked on certain
parts of the screen.
BUG FIX Forgot to change pointer into Sleep Mode when Loading/Saving
an update file (fixed).
BUG FIX Changed Month to Season in contract editing!
BUG FIX Fixed major bug in editor which caused it not to work
with some versions of Championship Manager Italia.
BUG FIX Fixed bug which caused editor not to display plays shirt
number correctly on player info screen.
BUG FIX The clock now correctly updates while grabbing info from the
main championship manager binary, instead of freezing.
BUG FIX Fixed mistake in player information screen which let you set
a players ability to a maximum of 255, where the limit should
have been 200, if it is higher than 200 the player becomes
very unpredictable.
BUG FIX Fixed bug in loading routine which could sometimes cause
problems when there were multiple savegames.
BUG FIX Changed Rating to Ability in the Player Info Screen.
BUG FIX Changed Passing to Goals Conceeded for GK's in Player Info
screen, and made this value ajust accordingly (0-255).
BUG FIX Fixed bug which would sometimes make the editor ask for
Env: to be inserted, if it was not already assigned.
