Updating SWOS Whdload with new data

Is there any way I can update a WHDLOAD install of SWOS using the update packs from here: http://synchronated.110mb.com/updates.html

?

Yep, just replace the data folder with the one from the update

Not fully - I think the executable file is modified (as a few of the leagues have a different number of teams now) so if you try to load it using WHDLoad it won't work as the slave doesn't support these 'unofficial' versions. You can try just manually copying the team data and that should be okay in most cases but if the number of teams has been modified it'll crash if you pick that particular league (I think Greece is one) or at the end of the season in career mode when it reviews how all the leagues and cups finished up.

Had no problems with a modified exe. Well it was the June 2009 update, not this WM 2010 update.

Ah, I tried an older one a while back (can't remember which one it was) and that didn't work... maybe an '07 or '08 update.

Hmm, just tried it with the WC10 data again, choose Greece and it worked fine. Have to admit that I haven't played it to the end of a season yet though.

To be fair I'm not 100% sure it was Greece

But I do remember having problems as I recall asking Galahad if he'd take a look to support the modified executable.

Let's just say it's worth a try if you don't mind not being able to finish a season/tournament It worked at least fine here for the few matches that I played

Sure - if that's all you're interested in go ahead but it definitely crashed at the end of the season on career mode so no point in trying that.

But you may as well try the executable just to see if it works. If it does work then happy days.

Just had a look. The last 2-3 updates had no executables, only modified data files.

Quote:
Crashes in career mode?
These updates are designed to be used with the original SWOS game files from the 96-97 version. If you are using any older or modified version, the game may be expecting different numbers of teams in some leagues and may thus be prone to crashing. As long as the original SWOS 96-97 game (or one with unaltered league structures from 96-97) is used, there will be no crashes with these updates.

iirc, if you modify the exe (and league structures) then *all* HD installs of SWOS break at the end of season in career mode.

this is why the synchronated updates do not tamper with the exe

this problem has been known about since WC'98

i know TCD, i was highlighting the point its nothing to do with WHDload or any particular HD installer, and giving the reason *why* the sync. updates dont do it (i.e. that you cant fix it by using a different installer etc)

This statement is true!

I use a HD installed version not WHDLoad but there is definitely some sort of issue with the Greece file as this is where the game stops (sometimes - not at the end of every season) and locks the game completely.

I am sure I remember this occurs in the WHDLoad version as well.

On my HDF installed version I can select a Greek team in career mode no-problem so that proves nothing. My teams are edited but I have kept the league structures intact! I'm not sure where the problem is and I don't know if it will ever be fixed.

So, yes, you can use the custom team data but don't expect the game to work in career mode. I have a feeling this may be some sort of hidden game protection code.

So don't use a version with a modified exe or structure. Where's the problem?
