Installation of BetterWB

I would like to install BetterWB over my "old" 3.1 Installation that I use for many years but would have 2 questions:- is this without risks or should it be really a "clean" 3.1. Installation- what about the new fastfilesystem 44.5: do I have to format the partitions again and copy back all the files? Many thanks in advance.

Backup old installation first, then try.

This should be done, right, but it does not answer my 2 questions. Hope somebody else could help.

You can add the new file system to the RDB but AFAIK you will need to partition and format again before you can use it (I'm really not sure if you can change versions of the same file system safely, i.e if you already use FFS) someone like Thomas will need to confirm, but I think not.

I recommend anyway using PFS3 instead of FFS

For the upgrade, it depends on what you have already installed, assuming that the startup sequence will be changed by the BetterWB install you might have to edit back any changes software you have installed made, like assigns.

I'd recommend backing up your old install and start again from scratch using PFS3 for your partitions, install WB3.1 from scratch and then BetterWB on top, you will encounter no issues this way assuming you do everything correctly. You can then restore any software or programs you use like WHDLoad, etc.

Good luck with your project, I highly recommend BetterWB, I'm using it on my A500+ with ACA500 and it's a great light pack

Upgrading to a new version of the same file system can be done without data loss, i.e. without partitioning/formatting.

But certainly a corrupted file system structure will not be repaired magically by the new code.

Furthermore if there is an unrecognised >4GB issue, after the upgrade you will recognise it, because FFS V44 will refuse to mount a partition with such an issue.
