On the basis that I'd be annoyed with myself if I didn't get one, I've just ordered the 55MHz one.

The question now is do I get another another A1200 to put the old one in?

Can You share with Sysinfo result in CPU speed and disk transfer, please?

I'll second tom256's request. Would like to see how it stacks up against the TF330 at 50mhz

I have an ACA1233n @40mhz, and an Apollo 1260 @66Mhz, and when using them in workbench, they practically feel identical.

I don't think I'll get it until mid August (they're on holiday) but once it arrives I'll take myriad screenshots

I agree My personal sentiment is that once you are over 20MHz, and have FAST RAM, there is very little to none difference in Workbench play-around.

That's app speed, we're talking about Workbench
Of course you see the difference with (un)packing / rendering / image processing...
But moving around Workbench is super fast with 20+ MHZ. I use my ACA 1233n 40MHz version @26MHz for screwing around, and only rack it up to 40MHz when needed.

yeah, i tend to not really do things like that on the Amiga, I am sure if i used programs for 3D rendering etc. i would notice a huge difference, i can see a huge difference when using PPaint for dithering and decreasing colours etc. Although a 64 colour workbench desktop runs as near as the 68060, on a 68030 @40Mhz. Most games run the same speed, or at least i thought so, until fired up the A1200 with the 1233n in it, and played Shadow of the Beast III, and noticed it was slower than on the 060, i think because it was still smooth on either CPU it was hard to tell the difference, but some 3D games, flight sims etc, show a massive difference.

TBH, i would be more interested in the tools coming with it, i like the iComp stuff, i really do, but its the software that comes with it, that is always the let down, i had an ACA1221ec (had it 2 weeks, then flipped it, awful card) and the state of the software was always beta, or in development, and there was never any news on when it might be done. The 1233n was much the same, "this to be supported in the future", "feature enabled on next release", and it just vanished in a puff of smoke. A good card, can be crippled by bad software.

Why doesn't someone make a card with a 68030 50Mhz part at 60Mhz? or something? the later mask CPU's would easily take it, the market has stagnated, no one in their right mind would buy this, without investigating when the A1200 Vampire4 is out. that is gonna be all killer, no filler.

030/60MHz need cooling with radiator or/and fan. Maybe this is why. Also possibly only mask F91C can hit 60MHz.

BTW. Warp A530 will be clocked 60MHz.

I've ordered 2 faster crystals for my TF330 to try it.

They are coming from China though and given the delivery date I can only assume being shipped by pack donkey.

Will probably be another few weeks before I get to try it.

I do need to get some cooling on the wee chip but for testing I was just going to try and use it with the case open and a large fan blowing across it. If it posts I'll put a heat sink and fan on it but they'll have to be glued on, well thermal epoxy but you know what I mean.

i've overclocked a 50Mhz part to 60Mhz, on a Bilzzard IV, and it wasn't hot at all, infact the SIMM was the deciding factor, not juice or heat.

Clock for clock I believe the ACA's to be faster than the Blizzard 1230IV. I'd expect the 55MHz ACA to match or exceed the Blizzard at 60MHz. Anyway, like previously mentioned, and 040 at 25MHz is better than either. An new 040 or 060 card would be nice.

Regarding the vampire, it's great and everything but it's not for everyone. There is still a real market out there for genuine Motorola cards despite whatever the vampire team come up with next (3 million GHz 68999 included).

There's going to be another split isn't there... Classic Amiga and Classic Classic Amiga LOL. TBH I'm not a fan of the use of 'Classic' as to me a better and more correct name is 'Commodore-Amiga'.

You are right here. I overclocked my Blizzard IV to 62.5MHz and result was similar to ACA1230/56MHz. It was around 12,5MIPS.
ACA1230/40MHz has similar speed to stock Blizzard IV, so in conlusion moderm MC68030 are around 15-20% faster comparing to old ones due to fast memory and low memory latency. MC68040/25MHz was around 15MIPS so still noticably faster.

Here are AIBB results for A1233n:
http://wiki.icomp.de/wiki/ACA1233

And Warp 1260 with MC68060 is wip:
https://www.ppa.pl/forum/elektronika...260/42#m660326

There will also design scandoubler add-on to Warp card.

Would a ACA1233n-40 be much slower than the ACA1233n-55?

Sounds good to me.Not needing one at the moment though.

I realise this is an old thread, but I was just wondering would it be worth getting a ACA1233n-55 instead of the ACA1233n-40? I have ACA1233n-40 and you get about 9.56MIPS with it. I think the ACA1233n-55 gets about 12.25MIPS. Just curious if there would be much noticeable speed difference with FPS games or not. Any of you guys know?

If you can swing it, why not get the best one available, and enjoy your hobbies without regret. (This is my approach, anyway!) In more practical terms, the improvement will not be noticeable with (for example) your typical WHDLoad platformer, though I imagine some FPS games will indeed benefit (AB3D, etc). It is the best performing '030 accelerator ever for the A1200. If I didn't already have a few Blizzards (and interest in tinkering with SCSI), I would get one in a heartbeat. (<--In fact, I almost did anyway!!! Have to somehow feed the kids and dog, however...)
