Must've been an awesome game ...

Someone sane enough, could help a poor retard, who never even played it but would like to get into?

Yeah easy for you to say, you have already seen the bases and have killed hundreds of the enemies, so you know their strength. You probably also know the optimal way to upgrade your bots, money VS strength wise. I just get lost and overpowered. Ik took me at least three hours and a dozen reloads just to get through the base you are on It's really hard to determine how much money to spend on upgrades and weapons: you never know if you are going to overdo it and not have enough money to afford the required upgrades in the next base...

It is easy for me to say, but I haven't played it for an extended period since 1993/4 and my memory isn't perfect

Here are a few tips (I'm sure Zetr0 will add some too)

-----

Firstly make sure you kill every enemy and collect every bag of gold, also makesure you don't leave your gold in the shop when you blow the generators.

Make good use of electricity as a weapon (This is what I mainly used early on), doors can also be useful and makesure you collect all those ZLOT weapons. Try and use the ball too, it can be useful, but makesure you don't miss the enemy and get caught on the rebound.

Don't forget to upgrade your droid experience points, early on I'd recommend brawling skills.

Yeah I got that from the second site and Amiga Action

But I don't think that electricity is a good idea, because if recall you don't get experience points for using it. Not sure though.

What about the step-attack-step trick? Works wonders in all 3D Amiga RPG's

I let my front droids hack and slash with four swords, and the back droids attack with balls and when needed magnums. I also only upgraded the armor of the front droids, since they are the ones taking most of the beating. Saves a wad of cash.

Yeah them ideas are pretty good.. The step-attack-step works but in some rooms you'll need to trap enemies to stop them ganging up on you..

Also if you are outside the base killing a few dino's makes some easy cash (They are not difficult).

I can't remember if using electricity gives experience points, but using doors does so I'd guess electricity would too.

If nothing else it's good until you can get some cash to upgrade weapons and armour etc..

That second site really is a good resource.

sorry for being so quiet i have been busy

As the master of all bippy suggests the 4 step shuffle will save your hide in an open evironment with few enimies but be cautioned as more than three will eventually trap you,

closing doors is a good method for taking down strong enimies hitpoints.

and when the time needs (fan+sh*t= i.e.) to hell with droid xp, get that electrcity flowing!!!!!

okay a couple of extra methods that i found work a treat. droid camera the unsung hero.

it can wait at the bottom of the stairs or top and allow you to land or attack from behind your enimies and lets not forget it can be detonated!!.

split the abilities amoung your group, the hardest hit pointers brawl it out to begin with as you counter the back with ranged weapons this is really the whole method to the game.

As bippym says... DONT leave any gold in the base. leave no monster unkilled and although the wall/retracting door thing is usefull your gonna need to be a bit nippy to get the gold or it gets crushed.

a quick way to make cash is to beat on the dino's and critters outside the base, there real easy and yeld a substancial sum of cash. a flaw to this though is to make sure you DONT attempt move into the water to obtain the gold as no sum of money gained from them creatures can cover the reapir cost.

only spend when you have to. Devscapes are good but repairs and ammo are much better, Devs needed most

Recharger
Repairer
AntiGrav

theres a couple more too but i'l let you find them.

make sure your leader is behind the front line or in the midst of a battle it could all go dark and in the wrong way. in the begining tindron chasis last longer than that of human get them in front and the human behind.

specialising is good but make sure that where you want that droid all to often its better to move onto the next skill and get some points in that. for instance theres no point in jucing up the rifles to 20 when you have the hitpoints of a wall flower in autum, get chasis upgrades but be responsible with your exp. you will have to specialise, but its upto you to find that ballance..

using these simple findings i managed to get to plannet 6 of level 34 in the course of a year.... and oh what a wonderfull year....

And now i get to unvail my project for next year...

I am writing an OpenGL 3d version of captive that is also linkable - netable with voice over ip too ))

[edit]

Dates willl be posted in the new year with alpha and beta testing expected for the summer

Money shouldn't be a real problem if you cheat Just get 1 thousand clipboards in butre and sell em all

I wish you luck writing a full game in C++... It's a hard job when you are alone. I always failed because of the time involved: eventually the lack of progress gets to you.

@gimbal,

indeed it can happen that way, i can think of too many projects on the amiga i had to can to name but a few.

Black Sun: (Post apoclyptic RTS -semi vectored warp3d game )
StarFleet: External Influence (Isometric Turn based Stratagy)
DMD: Duluxe Master Dungeon (even got the mapping tool and 2d/3d engines up)
H4E: hIVe world, futursitc RPG using staged combat and miltiple game types, i.e world builder, isometric, 2d/3d combat.

sigh and many more that got concept and model but not any further and as you say gimbal support is paramount especially specifically on the amiga.

but some projects can have a momentum all by themselfs like the one i have nearly completed and should be done for beta testing by end of Jan.

@zetr0: I only had to trash personal projects, but I feel your pain

I usually lose interest in a project when I move to another one. I'm always finding new things that I find incredibly interesting to investigate, and then my old project halts. Some time later I realize that I haven't worked on it for some time... and then I also realize that every development detail I had in my head is completely gone. Result: project -> trashcan. It's a real problem...

Luckely I do manage to finish projects professionally And I'm not dying before I converted one Amiga game using my 2d sprite engine (currently working on the sprite animation and movement timing).

@bippym: I already have the most powerful cheating tool ever available to me: WinUAE save states
