In fact I've played this even riskier than standard Tetris before. In normal Tetris I always play on the right 9 columns and leave the column on the very left open to get "4 lines".
In this "Tetris Pro" I mostly only played on the right 8 columns and left the first two left columns open so I could always score with the $-blocks.

But that was indeed too risky to play that way. Now I just used all the 10 columns and got very far. Missed a lot of $-blocks but eventually scored higher. Probably lost the patience to get as far as Rex.

I also prefer standard Tetris. The best being Tetris for GameBoy in my opinion.

How to decide between us with this stupid scoring (after completing this game)?

Otherwise, the best version (by far) at the time was the arcade version (1988). I had a buddy in high school who was incredibly strong in this game
But the gameboy version was nice, I have played it many hours to see the various space shuttles

I guess the one with the most endurance and most stable concentration wins. But breaking 1M takes a long time. I don't think I'll ever touch this game again should I get over 1M.

Okay, never played the arcade version.
Btw., still have melody "A" of the gameboy-Tetris in my mind.

Btw, anyone know what the "R" powerup does?

You certainly will. The game where you aren't able to compete for the win has yet to be created.
But it's not gonna be easy since Graham's score is probably close to the max.

Reset. It puts the speed back to what it was at this stage's beginning. Also it'll show the next piece again if it didn't and if you were playing top-down that'll be reverted, too.

Just a thought but wouldn't deliberately not completing four lines to reveal the pic and carrying on forever be technically score leeching? I'm not saying it is and going to disqualify everybody etc it's a tricky one seeing as it is quite difficult, I guess, to play for score leeching in Tetris as all it takes is one undesirable piece to fall from the sky and you're screwed. And also it can be very hard to take out four lines at once anyway...

Yes, I thought about that, too. But as you have to stay focussed all the time I don't know if it should be considered score leeching.

You and Biscuit shall decide. Should you decide it is score leeching I would have to accept that the scores with 1000+ lines would be invalidated...

This took a couple of hours. After I topped Rexsu's score I also still felt I could go on forever.
But I just didn't have the motivation to continue and quickly ended this:

Likewise !
But it's nice to read from the 2008 champion

For Tetris Pro, why not give 15 points to anyone who will send the beautiful last image ?

Agreed, that'd be fair. Any scores with 1000+ lines are kinda meaningless since there appear enough speed down-blocks to keep the speed down all the time and play relaxed (of course focussed) as long as you want to.

Scoring system sucks totally. Who had voted for it?

Is it just me or does this game ALWAYS give you the opposite tiles to the ones you want? I kept needing a line of four to complete a row but continually got squares. So I started building leaving 2x2 block to complete lines. I didn't get any squares and kept getting lines? Also you always seem to get the opposite L shape to the one you want.

Don't be disappointed, I think our scores (John4p and me) are similar to the leeching...
Therefore, as said earlier, I think we should give 15 points to everyone who completed the game.
Or cancel this round, in view of the limited success on this game !
