A1200 PAL vs NTSC

I am live in US so I need to use NTSC TV sets. Right now I have a NTSC A1200 but as most of you knew I have an issue with IDE so I decided to replace it. I can buy a PAL A1200 but I am not sure about connecting to the NTSC TV. There is an early startup menu where I can switch display modes, but I did a test with my NTSC A1200. I set it to the PAL mode and boot, but I got only more display lines instead of the black&white screen (PAL mode on a NTSC tv). My question is if I will get PAL A1200 and I will boot with the NTSC mode on do I will get a full color (full NTSC) or just less display lines with the black&white screen (NTSC display lines with a PAL color set)?

Thanks

The selection of "mode" on the Amiga only modify the quantity of lines and the number of horizontal lines.

The colour encoding will remain the same. A PAL machine will show no colour on a NTSC machine.

using composite video on a ntsc A1200 if you boot in pal mode you will get color and more lines (color system doesn't change)

but
using composite video on a pal A1200 if you boot in ntsc you will get a black and white screen and less lines...don't ask me why

if you use a monitor connected to rgb port you will get a color screen always it doesn't matter if the computer is ntsc or pal or the system you choice to boot

I have had an NTSX A1200 and a PAL A600 for -years- and unless you have a TV that supports 50Hz NTSC, this will not work.

The US is so closeminded their TVs accept nothing but 50Hz NTSC and as such, using anything but 60Hz NTSC is impossible. You might get color but the screen will get fucked because of the frequency change.

The other way round, with a PAL machine you will get black and white because of the colour system. RKauer explained it perfectly.

If you have a projector that accepts many systems, you might be lucky, though.
