Question WB/OS differences when using WHDLoad?

Which OS would work best with WHDLoad and why? I assume 3.1 works best, whereas 3.5 and 3.9 could cause problems (?).

Can someone shed some light to this? eg. what could be the cause of 3.9 NOT working OK with WHDLoad? Resident rom patches/libraries etc.

Hiya,

I think the whole point of WHDLOAD is to make the games/demos more compatible with various versions of the OS running on different HW.

That said, you're probably better off with 3.1 ROMS...OS version itself is probably less important (3.1, 3.5, 3.9....it's all good).

Patches (hacks ) will obviously effect stability, you should get away with all of the usual suspects though (eg FBlit).

Your processor seems to have the most effect on WHDLOAD stability, with the 020/030 being the most compatible (for AGA software), with the 060 being next followed (a fair way behind) with the 040.

I've always been aware (from what others have said on here mainly) that OS3.5/3.9 is less compatible with whdload.

Now I've never actually questioned why this might be so.

I personally have only ever used 3.0/3.1, scalos or a completely cut down startup-sequence with nothing but set-patch and whdload itself.

None of which have ever shown different behaviour on any whdload games I've played.

Ive been using whdload with os35/os39 since .....well since os35 existed cant say ive ever seen an issue that was os releated. whd slaves that depend on rom dependencies will utilise 1.3 or 3.1 rom images anyway.

I'm installing 3.1 alongside 3.9 and will compare differences between those two regarding WHDLoad.
