help needed !

i have an Amiga 500 with 1MB ram & kickstart/workbench 1.3 & 2.04 which i can select between using a switch & i also have the discs. my question is how do i transfer .adf files (for free) to play on my A500 ? i have a null modem cable but i need a step by step guide on how to do this & what software etc i need. i do not have a HDD in my A500. please help me !

thanks i have read the topic however i still need more help & i dont get what is meant by needing an A500 that can write .adf files already ? does this mean that i need the .adf files before i can do anything or ?

I'm not sure. I suggest you start by giving it a try and come back and ask again if you get stuck or don't understand something.

I would ask also that you try to take some notes as you go, and post them here if you are successful as a help to others who may try the same thing later on.

You will never get a better chance to compile a helpful set of instructions than when you are trying it for the first time.

ok i did everything as stated in the guide however when i click on the red diode it says port already open, so how do i get it to work then ?

If you have chosen the correct port and settings, it's possible that your null modem cable is of the wrong type.

There are two incompatible types of null modem cable. The guide suggests a cable made according to the Cloanto diagram.

I will find their wiring diagram and post a to it link here for you.

Check your cable with a multimeter, or light bulb and battery if you don't have one, to see if it is wired correctly.

according to the diagrams i have the correct type as i have a DB-9 connector on one end, DB-25 on the other end, so i dont get why it doesnt work ? any ideas ?

Yes, the Amigakit Serial Transfer Cable should be wired correctly for what you are trying to do.

I can't think of another obvious reason why the serial port should be reported as already open at this stage.

I'll give it a try myself tomorrow and see if I can get past that point.

I've just had a thought. The Amiga & PC article shows COM1: selected in ADF Sender Terminal, but you may already be using COM1: if you have a serial mouse.

Are you using some remote control software, like for a TV card? You can check which COM port is in use by going to: control panel> system> hardware> device manager and the com ports

If you have only one COM port on your motherboard the default should be COM1. If you have two COMs, plug your cable to the upper one to use COM1 or just change in application to COM2 if you are using lower pot on your motherboard.

If you have COM1: and COM2: on your PC motherboard, you should always choose COM2: for data transfer applications (including internet access), because it has a higher interrupt priority than COM1:.

i havent had the chance to have a look, but yes i have got a TV card in my pc. however i dont use it so i will remove it when i get the chance & see if it makes a difference & let uno how i get on.

No need to remove it, only if you have external infrared sensor that goes to COM port and the software the starts up with win that occupies port.

it does have an external infrared sensor however it isnt connected, also i have no software installed for it as i dont use it. so if i was to not remove it, how would i get ADF Sender Terminal to work then ?
