Amiga 3000 superkickstart
Hi folks - I'm new in these here parts so please excuse any ignorance on my part.
I have a poorly Amiga 3000 that I got in the early 90s but has lain unused for 20 years. It can't boot and is undergoing careful surgery. I have managed to get a good image of the hard drive booting up in FS-UAE but I'm keen to emulate it as accurately as possible. My first problem is I can't tell if it's using the kickstart on the hard disk located at wb_2.x:devs/kickstart. I'm not sure what version of kickstart that file is but I suspect and vaguely remember it is 3.0. It'll boot using 2.0x, 3.0 and 3.1 kickstart ROMs in FS-UAE but the kickstart versions shown in About make me think it's ignoring the kickstart file on the hard drive. The board of the real Amiga 3000 has two kickstart ROM chips which I've identified as 1.4 alpha 15. Can these be used in FS-UAE? It looks like Amiga forever can sell me that ROM if so. |

The 1.4 kickstart will boot your superkickstart in wb_2.x:devs/kickstart, ordinary release kickstart ROMs will not look at that file.
I also have an Amiga 3000 with 1.4 kickstart ROMs that has not booted in years. No floppies seem to work and the poor hard disk is broken with loose parts inside. Do you plan to get your Amiga 3000 running again? I am not so interested in emulating mine, I rather just try and get it up and running again, somehow. |

hth313 - yes, I hope to have the real Amiga 3000 working again. I've cleaned it up but have to replace two chip sockets destroyed by corrosion. That will be fun on a multilayer PCB with corroded, old solder, but I'm practicing with desoldering station on some less precious boards.
Amigasystem - thanks for the vid - very helpful. |

The video is not complete as it doesn't show KS1.4 booting from HDD.
If you can select "Hard Drive" in the 2.x half of KS1.4 early startup (aka kickstart menu) and it boots. You know it's using the wb_2.x/Devs/kickstart file from HDD. Or if it boots without the early startup menu and your sure it has KS1.4 |
