Floppy disk Install AmigaOS 4.1 Classic without DF0:

Hi guys

Hope this is the correct place for this post.

I have my old loved A1200, it has not been used for a very long time since i installed debian on my first pc in 2000.
Bought AmigaOS 4.1 several years ago but never installed it and found it again a couple of month ago and thought i should give it a try but my two floppy drives are broken and will not work even after cleaning

Specs: A1200, Bppc, Bvision, SCSI cdrom (stolen from my sgi o2), ide cdrom, no working floppy. and today i got a CF to IDE adapter. also some IDE and SCSI drives available.

Is it somehow possible to do the install without running the bootfloppy? i managed to boot the cd but as the documentation states it is not working or supported. I can boot to a WB 3.1 from HD.

*edit
Would it be possible to somehow prepare the cf card on a windows machine with WinUAE?

Best regards

I didn't to it myself yet but I have no doubt than you can do a manual installation of OS4 from OS3.

Just prepare the HDD with HDToolbox and copy all required files from the CD to the appropriate places on the boot partition.

The boot partition needs to be FFS long file names (DOS\7) or SFS and the corresponding file system code needs to be stored in the RDB.

I think the System directory on the CD contains a bootable OS4 system, just copy all files from that directory to the root of the boot partition.

Then examine the Installation-Files directory which files from there might be needed and copy them to the right places. Probably Startup-Sequence and User-Startup.

That's all. Of course this can be done from WinUAE, too.

Mount RAD, write boot adf to RAD, and boot from that.

In fact it is much easier than all of the above: just open the CD icon and double click "Start_From_OS3.x".
