GamesMaster HD restoration gets Dominic Diamond's seal of approval
No surprise there. Why wouldn't he be onboard? What baffles me is how little attention this fantastic project gets. Who would buy a 4K revamp of the show originally only recorded to VHS tape?

Why would he? He was kicked the fuck out of the series back then. I'm surprised he's onboard, last I knew (and this was a long time ago), he fucking hated it.
But maybe he's getting a bit of money off it for being in it, so that's OK. Wait, they are REDOING it with other people? This is insane. [edit] oh, no, they're just doing a lot of processing. I'm still confused about how they're doing it. and not sure why anyone would, but big ups! |

Phew! I thought for a minute there I was going to have to address all that. Although, it might be fun to reshoot the odd episode for YouTube jollies. I can't see it ever making a proper mainstream telly comeback.
I tried my own experimental restoration a while back, just messing about with Avidemux and other off-the-peg tools - the result was barely any better than when I started, which is why I'm even more impressed with the Cyberpunk Studios demo footage shown so far. Frame by frame fixerupification must be a nightmare. Yeah, DD did something daft during the stream to screw up the video playback unfortunately. There are better examples to check out elsewhere on the CS channel that are unmeddled with. |

I remember Dominic Diamond, and I remember how inaccurate in particular the GamesMaster Gore Special was, in regards to the Doom 2 contest.
Didn't GamesMaster also have Dexter Fletcher as presenter, too? You know, the scrawny kid who was Bytes' Boy in the Elephant Man movie of 1980, who went on to be gibbed in a car crusher by Nic Cage in Kick-Ass? Yes, him. He was probably better or worse, depending on whom you ask. |

Yes, Dominic was replaced after S2
Supposedly he did not like Mickey D being their sponsors Dexter Fletcher did S3 then Domonic came back for S4 to S7. |

I think we can chalk up Dexter's bizarre hyperactivity/in your face approach to presenting to being hooked on illegal sweeties at the time. That's not libelous, he's talked about his stint on GamesMaster in interviews.
Dominik made the show feel edgy by talking to kids as though they were adults. Dexter reversed all that by treating kids like kids and it became extremely patronising and cringey. Few people could have adopted Dominik's finely honed dour sarcasm without it looking like panto parody, but something along those lines was required to maintain the status quo. Otherwise you just end up with another safe, predictable non-entity of a show. |
