C64/SID sample set?

Looking for samples rather than modules (hope this is still the right section).

Is there a set of 'classic' C64/SID samples out there somewhere?

Hoping to re-create that slightly older-gen sound in Protracker.

I've been looking for something similar too, I seem to remember finding some on Aminet, but usually from the odd module that had them.. A huge bunch of C64 samples would be fantastic, sampled from the real machine and more than a few seconds long.

I`ll let you know if I come across any, I might just have a go at sourcing them myself.

you can also use AHX soundtracker. The creation of sounds is quite difficult, but the result in chipsound is incredible :

Personaly I went in a diferent approach, using a real SID synth (therapSID).

Another option that is more high quality then AHX would be Pretracker:
https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=91409

It can get quite close to SID sound, especially when you also want to use the filters.
Here is an example song as reference:

If you want to use ProTracker you find a lot of C64 alike samples that
were created with code (great quality, no noise etc) in this collection:
https://aminet.net/package/mods/chip/ays-p100

Happy chipping

Analog synthesis lives and dies with its filter. Even a filter has flaws, its flaws are celebrated and synthesizers are sold for $$$$ to have the right flaws.

That said, chip music can do the waveforms and envelopes fine. On Amiga there's what's mentioned, manual such in trackers, and programmed such in e.g. SIDMon, FC, Sonix, MusicLine. Some SID players on Amiga emulate the CPU to run the programmed instruments as close as possible, without the C64 filter (which varied greatly).

To capture "the right C64 filter", you can sample a C64 with the right one according to you. Once sampled this way, the instrument is mostly 'fixed'; you lose control, even if you can treat it similarly to a chip music waveform and apply the manual or programmed envelope over it.

But for the C64 too, some of the treatment was manual or programmed envelope. Once sampled, that's now baked into the sound, for better or worse.

This is exactly what I've been looking for. Thank you for sharing this, can't wait to put these samples to good use. I mainly use Renoise these days but will convert them into AIFF format for use in Octamed Sound Studio.
