Suggestion: Web Site/Blog For New Amiga Games

Evening all,

Those of you into your 8-bit machines will probably be aware of how vibrant the new games scene is there. It seems that not a week goes by without (for example) a new Spectrum or C64 game being released.

Things on the Amiga games scene do seem to be a lot slower, but that said, new games are still cropping up. You only have to look on here, other Amiga forums or the Aminet to see that.

The problem I'm finding is that there's no one central place where the arrival of these games is highlighted/announced. It may be here, the Aminet or another forum.

Wouldn't it be great if news of new game titles was in one place?

I'm only kicking an idea about, but how easy would it to set up some sort of site or wiki where a number of people could separately log in and submit new game news articles?

Perhaps, on the other hand, I'm making too much work for myself, and we could do something just as effective by having a new "New Games" folder set up here, where posts only relating to either the announcement or reviews of new games could go.

I just feel that the Amiga is receiving a steady trickle of new games, but I'm missing them (and I'm sure others are too), because I've not seen the announcement.

I'll stop waffling now, but would be interested to hear what others think.

I've started a thread like this on Lemon... I do need to keep the first post updated a bit better though but I do try and update the thread where possible.

A blog or something might be better though...

Graham, would you be up for contributing to a blog on Blogger/Google?

With a few of us submitting items to it, it could be a really decent Amiga gaming news resource.

Possibly, it's a good idea, just that I have a lot on my plate at the moment with numerous other projects. I'd also need to be a bit careful not to interfere with the reviews I write for Amiga Future (now there's a way to keep up-to-date ) but if something was to start up then you can certainly count me interested.

I do agree that we are missing something like this in the Amiga scene...

OK, I've been tinkering about a bit and now have a blog up and running.

The blog's called "Amiga Gamer", and can be found here:

http://amigagamer.blogspot.co.uk/

As a test I've submitted two posts.

Nice start. Definitely the sort of thing that could prove invaluable in terms of publicising new games.

Nice one! I hope you keep this up and it grows beyond its humble origins I've bookmarked it, anyway!

It's a lovely blog, but yours also features coverage of other Commodore related items such as the C64.

The idea behind this blog is to only cover news of new Amiga games, and nothing else.

Whether I'll be able to keep it updated on a regular basis is another thing (so, if anyone fancies contributing, let me know), but I'll see how I get on.

Fantastic. A link swap would be great, thank you. I've added your link to the sidebar.

Good site idea, it is difficult to know where to find new releases. Also as a developer myself I wonder if I should announce to more than one forum at once. Weighing up getting the most exposure by announcing on every forum under the sun against the risk of pissing everyone off with the same information duplicated everywhere is a tricky one.

This is exactly the problem I was finding when searching for information on new Amiga games. Someone would plug their game here, someone else would plug it on AmiBay, another on one of the Amiga news feeds, someone else would simply upload it straight to Aminet.

I'd recommend posting information about it to as many Amiga sites as possible.

Back to the blog for a second, and I've been amazed at the number of hits it's had already. It's been up for 2 days, and at the time of typing it's been visited 134 times.

I'm hoping I may be on to something here, and this has pushed me to ensure that the blog continues to be updated on a regular basis.

That's the essential ingredient. If you can achieve that, then you'll be the one-stop site for Amiga games news in no time!
