Floppy Sounds: fs-uae 2.0.1 -> 2.2.0

Hi there,

I`m new to the forum and i appreciate it a lot!
Using fs-uae (great work, thanks) under Ubuntu 12.04 and got a little question:

Is it possible (and how) to use the built-in sounds from v2.0.1 in the actual version 2.2.0?

the new floppy sounds are a bit to noisy for me,
the old ones sound much clearer and better in my opinion.

Cheers

Sven

the soundfiles you can find in /usr/share/fs-uae/floppy_sounds
if you have 2.0.1 install you can just copy the folder to a save place. after installing new version just copy the old floppy_sounds folder over the new one.

Thank you.
I should make a copy before installing 2.2.0, but now it`s too late.
fs-uae in it`s latest version is getting better and better!
However - if someone could provide me the files from the old (2.0.1) version...

I shouldn`t do things on computers this day -
because i`m far away from 'normal thinking' today.
Spent more then ten hours solving problems on our lab-server @university.

Better days will come...

you could uninstall fs-uae, install 2.0.1, rescue the files, and update to 2.2.0.

i found now fs-uae_2.0.1-0_i386.deb. this one does _not_ have the sound files in the folder.
the sound files above i found in the 2.2.0 archive only. so there was another way in 2.0.1 playing the sounds.
what you can try: rename the floppy_sounds folder:

mv /usr/share/fs-uae/floppy_sounds /usr/share/fs-uae/floppy_sounds-offline

maybe fs-uae switches back to old style floppy sounds. if this does not solve the problem, the author must help

version 2.0.1 you can find here. i extracted the deb files with 'ar xv filename.deb'.
found a data.tar.gz file inside which hold the floppy sounds in 2.2.0 only.

Edit: floppy sounds changed in 2.1.17:
Quote:
Example: floppy_drive_0_sounds = A500Real

Specify the name of an alternative floppy drive sound set, such as
A500
A500Real
ST
LOUD

You need to provide this files yourself and put then into Documents/FS-UAE/Floppy Sounds/. A zip file with the drive sounds can be downloaded from www.winuae.net (Download section).

The default is to use the included drive sounds. You can also use this option to turn off floppy drive sounds for this drive by setting the value to “off”.
winuae website has an archive with differnt sounds you can try ( Improved drive sounds ) in download section.

I would really recommend A500Real sounds. They sound like a real thing

Edit. Remember that you can adjust floppy sound volume from Launcher or by editing the configuration setting floppy_drive_volume

Hi, there has been no change of floppy drive sounds between 2.0.1 and 2.2.0. The only thing that changed is that they're now loaded from the file system instead of being embedded in the executable.

If you're hearing any difference between 2.0.1 and 2.2.0, it's likely due to this fix from WinUAE 2.5.0 Beta 21: "Floppy sound sample mixing volume fix, volume level got lower if more than one drive had enabled sounds." http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=223

As GoingDown mentioned, perhaps you only need to lower the floppy drive volume a bit to make it sound like before. This can be done from Preferences in FS-UAE Launcher.

- And as emufan pointed out, you can download other floppy sound sets if you like

Thanks all for your input.
Your hints fit to my actions i`ve done before.

I tested here and tweaked there and now everything fits to my expectations - fs-uae is really powerful.

The support here is really fantastic - thanks all.
