Does any one know when Amiga OS5 will be out. In 2 Years or 5 Years? If the developers ever get that far it would be absolutely nuts. The niche would be like a sliver of sand sticking out of the Oceanic Cosmos.

It's just sad that a tiny bunch of amiga-fanatics wanting "the second coming", have fed all those post-bankruptcy vultures!

After Amiga OS4.2 is released, when do you think OS5 will come out. I know it might sound like eon's away, but do you think it will be released in a couple of years?

Its been more than a decade, but I remember that Hyperion only had licensed for OS4 not to release OS5 (licensing issue). So it will never reach that version numbering. That is probably one of the reasons they keep releasing updates to 4.1, but they dont change version numbering quickly.
OS4 has stagnated in a kind of silent beta status for about a decade. No groundbreaking new apps & games, just linux ports and an overwhelmingly overpriced hardware scenario that means a very small user base.

Morphos is much more mature than OS4 and takes advantage of second hand macs, which are inexpensive, but its achilles heel is one that it shares with OS4: PPC as a desktop platform is undeniably dead, which means there is no near future for hardware beyond a Powermac G5.

The only viable alternative for OS5 in the long term is Aros. It is open source (unlike others this makes it future proof), runs multiple hardware architectures. Its features and maturity right now, are between OS4 and Morphos. But nothing prevents it going much further.

Come on, for a real miggy OS5 is OS3.9 BB4 with the latest update (libraries and so). I don't need anything new, just faster as speed is always appreciated.

Actually AROS is behind OS4, MOS and OS3.9 in terms of features. There are fundamental pieces of it missing (eg. ReAction), so it's not good for much in practice.

I must respectfully disagree with you on that, there's nothing wrong with ReAction.

Yes, my point is that OS3/4/MOS can support both those GUIs, but AROS is missing support for one of them. Even if I agreed that "ReAction is not very good", this would be like missing support for GadTools; a lot of software can't be run/ported, how can that possibly be considered a good thing? Plus there's much more missing from AROS than just ReAction...

Could a branch company from the beta testers of OS4.2 get assets to develop a future model of Amiga OS5 or is this idea to far fetched?

The traditional concept of an OS is as dead as a door-nail. Even if they can eventually develop OS4 into a professional and fully featured OS, it has already missed the boat by a country mile.

What (most) people want today are easy to install Apps and touch screen input, they don't even want to 'see' the OS that holds things together.

Obviously if you treat OS4 as simply a 'hobby' then it doesn't really matter what the rest of the world is doing

Every platform has applications, pretty much by definition. And no one wants to do touch screen input on a desktop machine, it's not at all ergonomic.

But I do think that the idea of making yet another fork of AmigaOS isn't really very practical, especially if written from scratch without the official source code to refer to. Better to improve and/or port and/or emulate one of the existing forks.

I agree with that, thats why I will never by a touch screen for my desktop.
I would be cleaning the screen every to mins, due to OCD (hate my monitor being dirty in any way).
