Picasso-IV Fault
I have a seemingly faulty Picasso IV card, and other than the most basic checks (cleaning contacts, voltage checks etc.), I'm not sure where to start with it. Unlike the Amiga itself, I'm not hugely familiar with the card, so any advice would be welcome.
Symptoms are as follows: - System (B2000) powers up normally - Card shows up as working in the early startup menu - Card shows up in P96Mode - Scandoubler portion works (but is a little glitchy) when the card is initialised - Trying to open any display on the card (either through P96Mode's Test or Edit functions, or through Workbench Screenmode prefs) results in a hard lockup of the machine and no output on the VGA port. The machine has a Blizzard 2060 installed and seems pretty solid and stable without using the Picasso-IV. It also has a Buddha Flash card installed, which is used for the system's hard drive and CD-ROM drive. I've removed all other cards from the machine. It's running Kickstart 3.1, OS 3.9 (full, normal install from CD + BB1 & 2) and Picasso96 2.1b. |

Daedalus,
is jumper at 6 open? it must always be open apparently *shrugs* as to what it's for though, but double check never know when some people see a jumper (previous owner?) they automatically close it thinking it will enable turbo mode or something haha! . Otherwise can you try rule out a conflict between the blizzard 2060 and the picasso-IV? Also what settings are 1,2,3,4,5 in? There's flashrom on there, know what version you're, with 7.5 being the latest ? And what revision of any board/boards if known? Last edited by solidcore; 06 June 2018 at 10:28. |

I'll have to get back to you on them. I did go over them with the manual and make sure they were set properly, but can't guarantee I didn't miss something.
Conflicts-wise, there shouldn't be anything because the 2060 sits in Z-III space, leaving the full Z-II space available. I don't have any other CPU boards to try though, and P96 requires an '020 so it won't run on the internal '000. |

Deadalus yeah auto-sense should kick in but perhaps it's crapping itself, in that case set jumper 2 based on the pic above to closed, open is z2/z3 auto sense and closed is z2 mode only. Aye 020 min... hmmm buggers, got another amiga you can try it on? This is the time where I wish I had a big box amiga and the toys that go with it. damn

Yeah, good point about the autosense. I'll try it when I'm home later on. No other Amigas to try it on (well, several, but they're all '000-based so won't work). Transferring over the 2060 to another 2000 would be a test of the motherboard, but wouldn't definitively say the fault is with the Picasso or the 2060. All other Zorro cards I have (including RAM cards) seem to work fine in the machine, so I feel that a motherboard fault is unlikely.

It's been 7-8 years, but I think I re-flashed the roms to get one board working back then, using the updater tools from Sophisticated Developement.

Interesting, I was worried that I might have some dead PROMs or GALs... Must give this a go later on.
Thanks both |

One of the developers of the PIV is still active today. Tobias "Mastatabs" Seiler.
He makes is pocket money repairing and refurbising PIV's. He's most active over on a1k.org but has an account here I think. You could try to use the tool on the install disk "p4info" and post back the terminal window output. This was a good resource for PIV but is now dead but thanks to Archive.org it lives on http://web.archive.org/web/200410152...com/picassoiv/ Last edited by alexh; 06 June 2018 at 12:44. |

*Finally* got around to looking at this again, and a reflash with the 7.5 firmware from the above sites did the trick! Thanks very much for the help guys, now basking in the glory of my '060 and RTG-powered A2000
