The original box version of Dungeon Master had a screenshot on the back which shows a door which never featured in the final game.

Mailman is right in that the game boxes are designed during development and inevitably changes occur as the game reaches the end of its development. Graphics such as this door are removed due to memory constraints or new improved designs.

Usually if screenshots have been taken from a different format there is a caption below the picture stating this. The Dungeon Master screenshots were taken from the AtariST version which is stated on the box.

Those shots of Myth are a bit shocking. I'm not sure how they got away with that. Its clearly fraudulent! The pictures look totally different to the final game. They were selling that product under false pretences.

To be fair to Psygnosis, it does say "screenshots taken from C64 version" for Barbarian

But what's the point? It's on box, not advert in paper magazine.

The Airborne Ranger box has had Amiga labels stuck on the front and side. This is because many companies used one box design for all formats.

In general, I seem to remember that the majority of games (particularly as the Amiga moved towards 1993 & 1994) featured boxes with 256-colour PC screenshots, whereas the box actually contained a 32-colour A500 version. Even A1200 versions were PC boxes with "Amiga 1200" stickers on the front & side, but at least the screenshots were accurate!

Steve.
