V7 ROM in A2091 issues?
All, hope you can guide/help.
I have a A2091 (don't know exactly what board revision) and 6.1 ROMS, so I thought I would upgrade ROMs to v7.0. Someone burnt me a pair - but when I fitted - they did not work. When fitted - the extra 2MB RAM on the card was visible but the Hard Drive was not detected at all. I put the 6.1 ROM back and HDD was detected again. Are there any pre-requisites for the V7.0 ROMs? I am currently 2.04 KS (I have 3.1 on order) with WB 2.04.. but I have not seen any mention that version X or Y is required to get v7 ROMs to work. So do I have Bad V7 ROM? or is something else at play here? (the person I got the ROMs from could burn but not test them as they did not have an A2091 card, and has not burnt any for anyone else - so cannot confirm that they have had success in the past). Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance |

Not sure if it helps, but I can tell you that under the very same conditions, I had exactly the same experience you're describing...nearly 20 years ago. I ended up reverting back to the (Commodore-supplied) V6.6 ROMs and gave up. :/
For the record, my A2091 was stock - 2MB Commodore-populated fast RAM and 52MB Quantum drive. Rodney |

One method to check if ROM looks correct (without ROM reader) is to boot normally from floppy and use some monitor program to list ROM contents.
For example with mon165.lha from aminet: run it, type "m e92000", you should see strings like romboot.device, dos.library and other strings. This assumes A2091 is first (or only) connected board, if you have others, use showconfig or sysinfo etc to check board start address, ROM start is board base address + $2000. |

Thanks rhester72/Toni
It is packed away for a few days while I wait for the 3.1 KS ROMS, but I will try and check the ROM per Toni's advice (that's a top tip ) when I fit the 3.1. Thanks again for your replies. |

We used to have a problem with the V7 ROMs when I worked for a CBM dealer back in the 90's. I don't recall them not working, but they were buggy. I always reburned them to 6.6 when I saw them- it was more stable.
Supposedly the best was a Guru ROM, but I never saw those in the wild. |
