Secondary file server

Hi,

I've lately had quite a lot of interest in preserving all the great stuff from the good old days. I was thinking if the folks at EAB would have use for a secondary file server? This might not come off very credible from a first-time poster, but I definitely wouldn't mind contributing to others who want to keep Amiga memories alive.

While I don't have a world-class server, it's still pretty decent for a home box. It will be ready to roll in a very short while and is looking forward to stay up too.

Let me know what you guys think of this. If there seems to be any interest, I'll post the FTP-details soon after.

NO! Only me!

Kidding. The more the marrier. If you only want a read only mirror its as easy as setting it up and I can send it all over, then you setup some kind of FTP mirror service so you can grab updates etc..

Just let me know when and where.

Hello, for both of you guys!

I have somewhat similar content as your server, Turran. My hierarchy differs little, though. You can check it at:

ancient.blackunix.net
User: ftp

I don't care if you send it all anyway :-) You can write to /pub directory with anonymous account, if thats good enough (no chmod nor FXP). Rest of the site is read-only. I can move your files to, for example /mirror/grandis.nu after you're done, and set up daily synchronize.

If you want something different, let me know!

Lots of stuff not on EAB FTP there. I think some that are not allowed by EAB rules (workbench 3.1 disks etc). But that is up to TCD to decide if you can still have those there and be called a EAB mirror.

Just informing/suspecting =)

/Turran

Edit: Anything incoming? Seems I cant see my own uploads in the /pub/EAB folder although the ftp client says transfer complete (SIZE error afterwards of course...)

Ouch, I removed those files. Sorry about that!

Nothing incoming, I'll turn on debuggin to try figure out what those errors were about. Did it happen with all files?

@Turran
Thanks for sorting it directly

@kkgarbod
Connecting worked fine with FileZilla here.

Seems I have to log out and back in again to see the files I upload (cache is disabled in flashfxp)

I can see the ones I did earlier now. I still get an error on each uploaded file though.

Large one now. I'll let you know when its done.

Edit: I had to switch to FXP since my samba server clips the filenames when uploading. Seems better with FTP->FTP

I can see the files when its done uploading and it refreshes the dir, but after each file, I get:
[R] 550 Could not get file size.

Edit: Sending directly from linux box instead. When verifying via windows that its uploading OK, I cant list dirs it seems.
LIST -al /pub/EAB/Atari/*

[R] LIST -al
[R] 150 Here comes the directory listing.
[R] 226 Transfer done (but failed to open directory).

And now the linux ftp client coredumped. Could not write file.

Just grab it from me instead.

Heh, this didn't start too well.. Your files were created with bad permissions for moment, that's fixed. I can try mirror, but my client hangs after getting several files just fine..

Edit:

Socket timeout after mirroring single directory, constantly. We can deal mirroring with rsync, if thats alright. I can set up service tomorrow.

We've made some progress with Turran. Initial mirroring is now done! There was quite a lot of stuff too :-) Passive mode FTP is bit unreliable, atleast for the time being. It seems like my router doesn't play along very well, and I'm trying to look into that.
